Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

No...this is a result of Democrats voting to remove a Speaker...siding WITH TRAITORS... to make some political point that proved nothing. I expect more from my Party. If you are gonna vote someone like the Speaker out...have a plan in place. Once again...stupidity reigns
This was inevitable. This was not the fault of Democrats.
Republicans will not vote for Jeffries. Nor should they.
I agree.

But I am glad you see the reality...there is nothing we can do to prevent a default without Republican support.
Correct.

So then...how do Republicans nominate someone that half the Democrats will support?
They can't unless the Republican works to gain their support.

See? This is our problem as much as it is Republicans because it is our elected officials job to figure this out. Both sides must work together. What do we do if the Republican leadership do not come through?
Yes, you don't like our government makeup.

Compromise is the only way. Democrats have offered that and Republicans have refused.

Did we vote to remove the Speaker of the House?

Answer: Yes.

So...what is our plan?

Yes...we offered him support. Yes...he turned it down. We knew the outcome. Now here are the results of that outcome.

Answer the question since you want to sit at the adult table...if the Republicans do not get their shit in line...how do we prevent a default. We voted for this knowing this was a possibility. How do we prevent a default without Republican support? Simple question
I'm trying. I'm really trying. I once thought that you were not a democrat, but I am convinced you are the democrat who whispers in the ear of Gore to accept the narrative of republicans and for the good of the country stop tabulating votes in Florida. You're the democrat who raised their hand from the back of the huddle and recommended that Hillary upset the apple cart and pick Tim Kaine as VP.

Congress has an obligation to function for the interests of the people of the United States. The rules for congress were designed so that differing parties would have to communicate and work together.

Right now there is an opportunity and need for cooperation among the parties but there is too much division.

Let’s see if respect and responsibility can overcome ego and idealism.

Right now the anti US government MAGA wing is winning.

^^^ Congress has an obligation to function for the interests of the Critters and the Special Interest groups that fund their campaigns.

Jordan defeated Scott in a private Republican vote.
Jordan is now the official Republican candidate against Hakeem Jeffries.
Now it is time for the Matt Gaetz and Margorie Taylor Greene sideshow.

Word from behind the scenes...the Moderate Republicans are going to cave. Still a couple holdouts...but they have started flipping. Take it or leave it.

Still waiting for anyone to tell me how removing the Speaker was a win for the Democratic Party.

Nice deflection attempt. Watch and learn with the rest here.

What’s your source?

55 GOP reps voted against supporting the insurrectionist on the House floor.

Time will tell.

How is it a loss for the dems to let US citizens see what a shit show repubs are?

Getting Jim Jordan as Speaker would be almost as good as getting Boebert or MTG. It would completely open the kimono on how dysfunctional the Republican party really is.

Sure, it'd be nice to have a Congress that actually got stuff done. But, if that's not going to happen anyhow, let the circus ascend to the next level.

Have you looked at Biden's approval ratings? Have you looked at the polling numbers in each state?

Do you know McCarthy was nominated behind those doors and he declined saying all Republicans need to unite behind Jordan? Do you know the number Jordan needed to convince was right around 48 four hours ago. Do you know that number is now down to 20ish...give or take? Do you know how hard that is to do? Do you know that if this happens, Biden will be impeached? Do you know that if this happens, there is nothing that can be done to win the 24 elections if Biden runs?

You people are blind to reality. You have no clue. People don't give a fuck they are a mess. They see us being a mess...what's the difference? You don't give a fuck we fucked up. They are no different.

Upcoming political ad in fall next year...The Democrats voted together to remove the Speaker of the House...putting our Country in danger. They did this without a plan. Voting without thinking of consequences is not what our country needs. How you vote matters. Please think before you vote

There should be a limit on the number of rhetorical questions a poster can have in a post, much less in a paragraph

Sure...kiss Ukraine funding goodbye. Brilliant...at least you can laugh at Republicans.

Kiss 3% of all those cool things like WIC goodbye. Brilliant...at least you can laugh at Republicans.

Biden will be impeached. Brilliant...at least you can laugh at Republicans.

Think. This is not a good thing

Donald Trump as Speaker is only slightly worse than Jim Jordan as Speaker. Did anyone tell Jordan there are no naked boys in the Speaker’s office?

at least you can laugh at Republicans.

It has nothing to do with "laughing at" them. You're attempting to downplay the damage to that party if they elect Jordan, and the long-term, positive results of said damage.

Plus, none of those things you mention are a given if Jordan becomes Speaker.

How is it a loss for the dems to let US citizens see what a shit show repubs are?
Exactly. If I'm reading Dribble right, they seem to think the Dems just have to be the adults in the room and do their best to clean up after the Republicans' mess, no matter how many times the Republicans accuse us of hating America, running pedophile rings out of some pizza joint, and heaven only knows what else. As I said before, it's a nice idea in principle, and if we really were dealing with a bunch of unruly children, I would agree. But we're not - the House Republicans act like a bunch of unruly children, but they are adults and elected officials, and they bear the responsibility for cleaning up their own mess.

And here's the kicker: they clearly do not want the Democrats' help. McCarthy could have gotten that if he were willing, and then he would still be Speaker. Even they recognize, in an off the wall sort of way, that it's their own mess. Either they think they can have their cake and eat it too, or they want the government to fail and the ensuing damages that will bring on.
Have you looked at Biden's approval ratings? Have you looked at the polling numbers in each state?
Yes, and that is absolutely irrelevant to what's going on in the House. Besides, if your point is that his popularity is relatively low, remember some of that is due to his base feeling he's not fighting back hard enough against the right-wing extremists. So for the members of his own party to do their bidding in the House...is not going to address the problem you're alluding to here at all.

You don't know that either. I don't know how old you are, but this time in 1995 everyone I knew was sure Clinton was toast in '96. Just for starters. And last I heard (less than an hour ago) Jordan had not made anywhere near the progress you're claiming here.
You people are blind to reality. You have no clue. People don't give a fuck they are a mess. They see us being a mess...what's the difference? You don't give a fuck we fucked up. They are no different.
For the nine millionth time, if any Republican wants the Dems' support, all s/he has to do is make a decent offer. It is not our fault they've all refused to do that.
Upcoming political ad in fall next year...The Democrats voted together to remove the Speaker of the House...putting our Country in danger. They did this without a plan. Voting without thinking of consequences is not what our country needs. How you vote matters. Please think before you vote
In other words, "Blame the Democrats for refusing to save the Republicans from themselves even though most Republicans won't even acknowledge that they're Americans at all." It's not going to fly, Dribble. Except maybe with people like you.

so the gop shitshow goes home for the weekend...no speaker determined. They should have rules making them remain there till it's sorted... and if it's prolonged a certain number of days, theyir pay stops till they get to work again.

support weaker than expected for jordan, even if he increased the number to 152... still way short of the 217 required

House Republicans are adjourning for the weekend after their designated candidate for speaker, Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, appears to be well short of the support needed for a chamber-wide vote to give him the gavel.

It's the second time GOP lawmakers have gathered to pick a speaker-designate in three days. Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., won an internal vote on Wednesday but stepped back from the race on Thursday night after it became clear he did not have enough support for a House floor vote.

Jordan won 124 votes against his rival in the race, Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., who won 81. It was followed by a second secret ballot vote on whether lawmakers would support Jordan on the House floor, in which he won 152 votes.

Too bad the President can’t dissolve Congress if they can’t (or won’t) do their job.

They should all resign but we know they won’t.

Hopefully, voters will still remember next November.
