Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

Nice to see Gymie’s old athletes stand up to reiterate his past again. I thought the GOP cared about athletes now?

The guy couldn’t manage a wrestling team!!

They won’t be able to get a leader before the debt limit collapses

Telling his players to STFU about molestation may be typical for college athletics, with similar crap at UM, MSU, and PSU. So tick tock on Tommy Tuberville facing similar accusations.

Working on a source, but heard that the GOP selected Scalise in their morning vote.

Scalise has a great deal of animosity towards veterans. He wants a 22$ across the board cut for all veterans programs, and an exemption from providing cancer treatments for veterans. Not active duty folks, just veterans.

So the Trump-supported nominee loses.

Stand by for more whining; you'll get sick of all the whining.

Scalise is the dude that supported David Duke. He then claimed he didn't know. A real winner. But better than Gym Boy. Still a step down from McCarthy if that is even possible.

I know McCarthy is saying he will not accept the position again...and I don't blame him...but i don't see Scalise getting this without major concessions. I still think McCarthy will ultimately win out again

Hmmmmmm.
The GOP has such a big tent.
Should I go with the non lawyer heading the judicial committee who worked to overturn a free and fair election and who was chartered to grooming young men into adulthood but turned a blind eye as colleagues raped them (allegedly).
Or should I go with the white supremacist who loves guns and hates gays and was shot and whose life was saved by a black lesbian?
Decisions, decisions.

Rats, I was hoping for a Jordan win leading to the total destruction of the Right. Might happen anyway.

Just saw the old news of Scalise winning. I hope he is a better speaker and doesn’t need to be voted off too.

Context please - better speaker than who?
McCarthy? Ryan? Boehner? Gingrich? Or are you referring to the longest serving republican speaker in the esteemed Dennis Hastert???

Jordan has offered to do the nomination speech which should bring sufficient votes to defeat the D candidate and more importantly isolate the rump which ousted McCarthy. Critics who think Scalise is a better option should hold their fire, his voting record is that he has been in total lockstep with Jordan all the way. Jordan's talk is way more incendiary, but when it comes to action, they are 2 peas from the same pod.

Gaetz has already committed to Scalise which indicates the ouster was largely a personal issue. If Gaetz expects any sort of promotion he should be disappointed because no-one will trust him, which is neat, because it was lack of trust which enabled him to oust McCarthy.

One interesting observation I heard on the radio was if the D's chose to be crafty they could withdraw Jeffreys which would allow the Jordan supporters to vote against Scalise without risk. He would still be elected but only by an overall minority. Bit of a smartarse idea perhaps.

The Democratic candidate is Jeffries and he has no chance at winning.

Gaetz is an asshole who gets off on attention.

I see Scalise as the most likely heir to the gavel, but I could also see a complete impasse, resulting in the vulnerable moderate "republicans" in the house finally throwing up their hands and making Hakeem Jeffries Speaker (with some power sharing arrangement) just to keep government functioning.

*nods*

Agree. Scalise wants the job but from all the coverage I’m seeing it looks like Jordan is next up. Given the grueling demands of the job and Scalise’s health (blood cancer), it’s best for him personally to lose this contest.

Steve Scalise represents a disappearing district in Louisiana with rising sea level that still has unrepaired damage from Hurricane Katrina. He was one of four people shot by a Dem terrorist at a baseball practice in 2017.

The POS that shot KKK adjacent, election denier Steve Scalise, was a longtime Bernie Sanders supporter.

Bernie Sanders is an INDEPENDENT.

So the shooter was an INDEPENDENT terrorist.

Hope that ^ helps.

It's not often a political party highlights their own dysfunction and complete inability to govern like the Republicans are doing now.

They really prefer sham investigations and speaking to reporters than doing the job they were elected to do.

🍿

Although I agree with highlighting their dysfunction...we must also remember Democrats have shown theirs. How? Would McCarthy still be Speaker if the Democrats voted "present"?

So in 30 days or so...the Govt shuts down and we default on our loans. Ukraine is not getting help. Israel is a mess. All because we wanted to bring their dysfunction to the forefront. Was it best for our Country? I say no.

We need to stop governing based on political ideology

Scalise far from the votes needed for Speaker. I'm curious how long it will take for them to hold the vote .....looks like it will be a while.

Steve Scalise picked as GOP speaker nominee, but struggles to lock down votes to win the gavel

It will not be this week. At least I would be shocked. I am not sure they will have it next week the way things are. The moderates will ultimately break...unless McCarthy gets the nod. Believe it or not...this is the best result for the Country. Sad as that is. I can see enough Democrats crossing the aisle if...he asked. That is the problem. The offer was there previously and he turned them down.
