Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

Meanwhile the temporary stand-in acting Speaker who has only one role under the House Rules (to ensure that an actual Speaker is duly selected), has broken the terms of his engagement and taken it upon his childish self to evict the former Speaker Nancy Pelosi from the re-purposed storeroom that she was using as an office because the spineless McCarthy refused to allocate her the traditional suite of offices.

Now, dusting his hands off from the important stuff, he settles down to find someone who is so dumb that all sides of the GOP think that they can blackmail them to do their bidding. Unless Trump tells him he wants the job, in which case he'll do Trump's bidding.

Liz Cheney doesn't think jordan will get the votes but, if he does, she said there would “no longer be any possible way to argue that a group of elected Republicans could defend against the Constitution.”
“Jim Jordan knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for Jan. 6 than any other member of the House of Representatives,” Cheney said. “Jim Jordan was involved, was part of the conspiracy in which Donald Trump was engaged as he attempted to overturn the election.”

Cheney said there was a handful of people, Jordan being the leader, who knew what Trump had planned on that day. Cheney said in her speech that someone needs to ask Jordan why he didn’t report his knowledge about the events on Jan. 6 to Capitol Police.
preach it, Ms Cheney!

I'm not sure if it's actually going to get any worse than it already was. Say what you will about McCarthy, he came across as a garden variety right-wing Republican. Not so Gym Jordan - with him in charge, the Democratic attack ads write themselves. Yes, any legislation he lets through will be awful; but that was already the case under McCarthy.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Scalise corners enough of the extremists to keep Jordan in the same impasse McCarthy was in back in January.

You make a great point.....Jordan being speaker really helps us on campaigning.

I see Scalise as the most likely heir to the gavel, but I could also see a complete impasse, resulting in the vulnerable moderate "republicans" in the house finally throwing up their hands and making Hakeem Jeffries Speaker (with some power sharing arrangement) just to keep government functioning.

That's what I'm hoping for, too. But so-called moderates rarely put their money where their mouth is on being moderate.

Yeah, the only reason I see it as even being a possibility, is because at some point, if there IS a prolonged impasse, those vulnerable moderate "republicans" are going to be hearing from their corporate overlords and their constituents.

And even if KKK adjacent Scalise or rapey Gym Jordan gets approved, and then goes full MAGAt and shuts down the government by submitting completely insane appropriation bills and refusing to abide by the agreed upon debt ceiling deal spending numbers when the Senate submits their bipartisan agreement, the vulnerable moderate house "republicans" can demand a vote to vacate, and then enter into a power sharing agreement with Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Too much intrigue for my liking, but this was always going to be a shit show, before and after Weaket McCarthy made a deal with the Devil(s).

SAD!!!

It's instructive to look at the history of GOP speakers over the past 30 years:

Newt Gingrich 95-99, The man who invented the strategy of 'Oppose absolutely everything , good bad or indifferent, never compromise.
Dennis Hastert 99 -07, convicted serial child molester, and prison inmate, a man who sold access to interest groups.
John Boehner 11-15, who sold investments in funds on information received through his office before it was made public, and had various other shady deals .
Paul Ryan 15-19, Ryans personal integrity was never questionable like his colleagues, but he is the man who failed in every legislative attempt except one. His success? the tax reform of which 83% of the benefit went to the 1% wealthiest. He thus increased the USA's national debt by more than any other person.
Kevin McCarthy -23 who managed to obtain almost unanimity in the House. Unfortunately the almost unanimous opinion that he cannot be trusted by anyone GOP or Democrat

Can any current GOP rep be elected who can make the Reps work again.

What's fun is even the GinGrinch opposes what Gaetz did.

Gymmie just got elected .....

Jim Jordan's House Speaker Bid Draws Scathing Rebuke from Hillary Clinton

Jordan received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump in his bid for House speaker on Friday morning but was criticized by Hillary Clinton.

Seriously, this 'person' just needs to shut up and go away. She already ruined the country in '16.
I don't care that she says shit....it gets the right wing panties in a bunch. But as soon as she does, that's all you hear about for a week. She has no bearing on the party any longer. Her time is done.

'It' just leaned on the scales to all but ensure Gymmie gets in.

We can only hope there are at least a few sane GQPers left that might possibly, maybe swing to Jeffries.

.

I don't know any of those people. They all seem to be cardboard cutouts with barcodes for convenient restocking.

No Republican in the House is going to vote a Democrat to control the business of the House.

Agree. Scalise wants the job but from all the coverage I’m seeing it looks like Jordan is next up. Given the grueling demands of the job and Scalise’s health (blood cancer), it’s best for him personally to lose this contest.

Former Ohio State University wrestlers say Jim Jordan betrayed them and shouldn't be House speaker

"Do you really want a guy in that job who chose not to stand up for his guys?" said one former wrestler who attended OSU when Jordan was assistant coach.
