Both claims you make are possible, but if trump is convicted then he’ll remain a felon. If Biden turns into an octogenarian veggie - the democratic line of succession would be handed over to a competent, non felon, vp to even possibly, hopefully, Hakeem Jeffries. I suspect that Trump is seen as the savior by those who fear that the United States is changing in directions they dislike. White blue collar workers fear being replaced by non whites at home and abroad, and by computer technology and automation. Small business owners fear socialism, when I think they should fear being run out of business by large corporations.

All I’m saying is that we are 13 months out. No matter how you parse it - a vote for lesser evil or whatever. If the choice is between Trump and Biden, I believe Biden would win despite whatever democratic apprehension.

The fact that Biden is not ahead in the RCP polling average against a candidate facing four different indictments is something Democrats can’t be happy about. So far they haven’t figured out why Trumps message is working or how to turn Biden’s approval numbers around.

Oh, we know why Trump's message is working. For the first time in two generations, he's made it OK to be openly racist, xenophobic, misogynistic and so forth. And in a really perverse way, it's entertaining to see what breathtakingly stupid thing he's going to say next.
