Gun stuff is dumb stuff

In 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, there were 1,732 gun deaths among U.S. children and teens under the age of 18. By 2021, that figure had increased to 2,590.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-r...s-among-us-kids-rose-50-percent-in-two-years/

Every year in the US, 3,572 people die from drowning. Nine hundred and forty-five of them are children.
https://www.childrenssafetynetwork.org/infographics/facts-childhood-drowning#:~:text=Every year in the US,, near drowning, and prevention.

Of the 38,824 traffic fatalities in 2020 in the United States, 1,093 (3%) were children 14 and younger

Thanks, but firearms deaths far exceed both road and drowning deaths added together. I'll stick with crusading against firearms.
If I were sarcastic I could ask, Why do you support children's deaths?

Has there ever been a mass shooter who didn’t own a gun? 🤔
It’s hard to shoot someone without a gun but it’s not hard to kill someone without one.

This is the type of question and attitude that earns you the hairy eyebrow. 60% majority vote needed to pass. Republicans offering no cooperation or stepping outside of the party line of "no" for mental health and/or social services.

Would you like to rephrase your inquiry into something that reflects the reality of how American governance works?
I know how government works. I don't even recall a bill being presented regarding gun control. Generally gun control legislation and abortion legislation on a federal level get a ton of lip service but no real action. Again because they fear not being re-elected more than they respect actually doing what the citizens that elected them want. You know as well as I do that right around election time both topics become hot button items.

I'm glad that you're with me on this. Tighten up gun laws and protect the children no matter their ethnicity.
No one wants to see innocent children become victims of violence. As long as there’s a hatr for cops the carnage will continue unfortunately.

Honestly, I don't think you do. Or at least you are not demonstrating it by asking that question. The senate numbers and the filibuster make your question not only irrelevant but ignorant.

Re bills....

And for fun:

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...lock-gun-sales-to-certain-mentally-ill-people

The pattern:

Democrats advance gun control bill.
Republicans kill it.
Democrats enact gun control.
Republicans weaken/repeal it.

In the meantime we have republican state legislatures and governors making it easier to own a gun (in Florida you can now own a gun with zero training) and to carry one publicly without any registration (Florida and Texas.) And we keep hearing about mass shootings in both... multiple times a day.

You can blame it on the politicians - there's plenty of blame to go around. Considering that too many people can't be fucked to vote, I tend to look to the citizenry. Term limits are hard to put in when voters don't vote.

And in the meantime when it comes to playing it where it lays, so to speak, every single time the democrats try to do anything about gun control the republicans work to kill it. Ironic word choice, but here we are. We sacrifice our children and our citizens - their lives, their liberties and their pursuits of happiness - for the sake of the gun industry. We can't so much as even have a discussion about autos and semi autos without someone feeling their right to such weapons is more paramount.

But hey, think of the shareholders. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OK, the first and easiest thing to do would be to roll back the Republican bill that made it easier for mentally ill folks to possess guns. That was a bizarre moment in history, what where they thinking?

Another easy move would be to equalize the situation with sex offenders. If we can have a rule where by those people are not allowed to live or be near a school, we can do the same with gun owners and gun stores. Make safe zones around all schools and stop victim-blaming. Don't lock the fire escapes to stop the shooters from entering, we must stop the shooters instead.

It useless to try to jam bills down people's throats at any political level. You have to build coalitions and if your mantra is so radical, whether right or left, that you can't attract any support from the other side you are practicing futility. It's a big God Damned show and the politicians know that. We tried to get this passed but the other side blocked it. Stop playing fucking politics, stop being the hard ass, and sit down and seriously negotiate something. You will not get all you want, this time, but maybe it's a start and things can be added or corrected later.

What do you recommend they negotiate about? Especially in light of the last article I linked.

I ask because you act as if they aren't trying.

Lol, guess who has more gun accidents and suicides, families who have guns or families who don’t? 🤷‍♀️
So you are willing to punish me for the crimes of someone else? How do you figure destroying my Civil rights will fix all of the gun violence in America? I'm not the one who committed a violent crime. What power on earth gives you the right to steal my basic human rights, or blame me for violent crime?

I think mental health care should be number one. Not only related to gun violence but across the board. There has to be a compromise position that both sides can agree on to bolster this care.

What does not being able to handle your financial affairs have to do with firearms ownership? If poor financial stewardship is a sign of mental illness is every person who falls behind on their mortgage or car payment mentally ill? Is a business owner who goes bankrupt mentally ill? I just don't see the connection between that and gun violence.

crazy people shouldn't have access to firearms. there is no compromise. well, there is, i guess. you guys favor compromising children's safety.

This is just a continuation of TrailerTrash’s intellectually dishonest and disingenuous approach to “problem solving” / “finding solutions” to the gun violence epidemic in America.

Garbage individuals like TrailerTrash see “compromise” as the common sense gun laws crowd “compromising” ALL of their positions on solutions to the problem and meekly conceding that nothing should be done about regulating the actual guns and accessories that facilitate mass shootings and crime or the distribution and sale of those guns and accessories.

TrailerTrash is a demented parrot on a loop when it comes to discussing / debating solutions to the gun violence problem in America.

TrailerTrash is a waste of time.

TrailerTrash is human waste.

Sorry, but your opinion of me and my posted views are as irrelevant as you are. You always resort to the same nonsense, name calling and then try to propagandize what I say.

You must be a fan of Joseph Goebbels. You know, he pushed the big lie. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” This is you and your tactic line right to a T. Congratulations, you're a facist.

More blaming it on those that don't vote. Reality is that isn't who makes Legistlation.

Let us magically increase the number of voters in Florida...to 90%. How many of those will be Democrat? How many will be Republican? You pick the ratio. But be fair.

Now...where will those new voters live in Florida? You will find that Democratic leaning communities will gain more Democratic voters. Guess what...you will find Republican leaning communities will gain more Republican voters. This is a sampling FACT.

So what changes by having more voters? At the State Level...nothing...until a Republican is not elected a Governor. What about at the Federal Level? Unless you have an Abrams Effect...which will never happen again because the Republicans learned from their mistake...again...nothing.

Why is this you ask? Because look at the citizens making up the state. They are far more equal than polling indicates. This is an undeniable fact.

So...why do the disenfranchised not vote? Because it makes no difference to them in their day to day lives.

Now...here is the nail in the coffin proving my point. Why ..as a whole...do Political Parties not invest massive amounts of money increasing voter turnout? Think. Why? Because the outcome does not achieve the desired result. They get more bang for the buck flooding the airwaves with rhetorical bullshit lies. Why is this?

You’ll have to cite that bill.

Yes we know you believe 2A comes before the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That's what happens to brainwashed people who have become pawns of the gun lobby. I'm sure that all the dead children will be very happy to know that your gun makes you feel like you get to "own the libs". Too bad they'll die for it because of some nutjob with a gun - which you support.
Your sad very sad.. to actually believe I support "some nut job with a gun" your off your chain.....
Your the one and folk like yourself with fucked up judges, worthless attorney Generals and jackass district attorneys that refuse to jail these sons-of-bitchs who commit these heinous crimes... or for that matter execute the murderers on death row.

Mental health care funding has been repeatedly cut and denied by the republicans. They cut funding for it at every turn.

Frankly, if a person is declared incompetent to handle their finances they have zero business owning a gun. If they can't handle a checkbook, then they most certainly shouldn't get to handle a gun. Why do you think someone declared mentally incapable of handling their finances should have access to weaponry? You're going to have to justify that.

Again, what specific things should they be compromising on? "Mental health" is a nice airy fairy phrase that means exactly nothing when mental health funding gets cut every time we turn around. It also isn't specific.

So then you support gun restrictions? Do you vote for politicians who the NRA grade positively?

You can insult all day long and deflect but the reality is you've got more talking points than legs to stand on.

well here's a stupid:

loser (repug congressional candidate and losing gubernatorial candidate) speaks about being willing to die on his own front porch if they try to take his guns after ban on assault-style weapons upheld
Illinois Republican congressional candidate and losing gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey spoke out against the state Supreme Court's Friday decision to uphold Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker's ban on assault-style weapons.

"I'm standing here on my front porch," Bailey said in a video. "This porch kind of became famous through the governor's run when I was speaking on nonsense, and I made a statement. And sometimes when we make these statements we don't know where this is going to go but, if need be, this front porch will be my final stand. I will not allow anyone to infringe on my property, on my second amendment rights. I will not allow anyone to come and take anything from me. And if need be, as I quoted before, I will die on this front porch before I give up any of my Second Amendment freedoms."
