No, monogamy isn't it as lots of people are not married. It's probably religion more than anything else. With religion they tell you how to live your life on all levels. What you can and can't do in all aspects of your life.

And if you don't believe in "God" then you're doomed to eternity. But who's to say, who's God is the right God to believe in?

In addition, religion or making someone believe in a certain God has resulted in more deaths than all wars combined.

Monogamy stemmed from women being regarded as property and has been reinforced by religions: Islam and Christianity. Capitalism has fuck all to with it. Capitalism has probably done the most to destroy monogamy because women can be financially independent.

Everyone gets a fair chance at having an opposite sex partner, until a war or something kills more of one than the other, many men join monastaries, etc. Where there are more wives per husband by religious law, not lack of men, there are excess boys with no future in their communities. Castoffs from polygamous Mormons tend to drift into California or anywhere they can survive homelessness.

You're confusing the terminology. "Polygamy is the practice of marrying multiple spouses. When a man is married to more than one wife at the same time, sociologists call this polygyny. When a woman is married to more than one husband at a time, it is called polyandry."

In common speech, "polygamy" usually refers to having multiple wives (or at least concubines or some other arrangement). So, are you male? Why do you want polygamy? Usually polygamy results in the higher status males getting a larger percentage of the women. It sometimes results in in "harems," such as existed in the Ottoman Empire, which included quite a few people. The article below claims that women in such harems had behind-in-scenes political power, but basically it was a male-created institution.

So do you and Dapperguy imagine yourselves as high-status males who would get access to more women under polygamy? The other possibility is that you both would be left out of the sexual marketplace entirely.
