Thongs of quality, soft material in the right size don’t have any of those problems. They stay put and have a tiny amount of material that I don’t even feel. Just a preference

I like to size up as well as feel the material. If it’s even a bit rough or has edges where the material is folded over and sewn, it’s going to rub the wrong way. I like the very thin softer mesh or silky soft materials with bonded (absolutely flat and glued) edges.
