Here it comes. Popcorn time! 🍿🍿🍿

"House conservatives on Tuesday blew up an effort by GOP leadership to advance several bills in a dramatic confrontation on the House floor, the result of a revolt against the debt limit deal cut by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and President Biden just days before.

Eleven Republicans — most of whom are members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus — joined Democrats in voting against a rule to advance four bills related to gas stoves and regulatory reform, enough opposition to tank the rule and block the legislation from advancing to the floor."

Comer's already made a fool of himself more than once. Hopefully somebody will deal with him sooner than later.

Kinda surprises me the Republicans want to get rid of gas stoves. Kinda flies opposite of their stated agenda
Agenda? The only agenda of Deplorables is to express resentment over being toilet trained.

care for some more popcorn, Rory? 🫣
"We've told the Speaker that there will be no rule votes until the pistol-brace bill passes," Gaetz told Steve Bannon on Wednesday's War Room podcast. "However, we believe that our committees should continue their work."

But Gaetz said McCarthy had threatened to retaliate against far-right Republicans by postponing contempt proceedings for FBI Director Christopher Wray.

"And I have been told that leadership teams are meeting right now, and they're thinking about punishing House conservatives and just sending everybody home this week and canceling the committee work and the contempt work as a way to stick it to us for making demands that they keep their promises," the lawmaker explained.

What are the chances that McCarthy makes it to new years?

There is nothing critical on the board now that the debt issue is solved. He can just ride it out. Only makes the 20 conservatives look stupid. He shouldn't have dealt with them as he did to gain the leadership

when the naughty kids act up and throw harmony out the door, the more adjusted members also get froggy
Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) has survived the first five months of the speakership by catering just enough to the GOP’s right flank without alienating moderates, a delicate balancing act that’s helped him keep the job he barely won.

That balancing act seems to be collapsing. Not only is the right-wing flank mad at him over the debt ceiling deal, but the speaker is now hearing it from centrists, especially those in swing districts whose political survival is imperiled by a far-right agenda that’s driving the party, Politico reports.

The report cites an exchange Wednesday between Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.) as an example of the GOP's growing intramural rift
The exchange occurred during closed-door meeting in which Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), the number two and three ranking Republican House members, were briefing a dozen or so House members who represent swing districts on plans to advance a proposal to thwart a Biden administration gun law and another to limit taxpayer-funded abortions.
Fischbach confronted Mace at one point over her voicing her assailing GOP colleagues over reproductive rights, and Mace fired back saying the party is losing the political center.

seems scalise and mccarthy were openly tossing accusations at eachother of 'triggering' outrage earlier during the debt ceiling talks

*smirk*

The do nothing “republicans” are taking doing nothing to a whole new level.

they should have their wages stopped for the time they're not doing their jobs. it's hardly an industrial strike for better working conditions, is it?

annnnnnnnyway, a funny thing happened on my feed a little while ago: i'd left the pc on while H and I were clearing some roots and planting a red bud tree. The lead story at the top left of the page was something about a fox host (some sour-looking blonde) and mr toad aka bill barr. Can't recall the exact headline... so i clicked for the next story and the text changed before the picture, resulting in both of them above this headline:

Having more pythons in Florida is actually increasing the rat population because they're killing the other predators, scientists warn

just struck me as comical right now, given florid politics

The day to day nonsense is just that: Nonsense. Do any of you remember the last time Congress passed an annual budget? It was 1998; that is how dysfunctional Congress has become.

Oppose everything, good, bad or indifferent. Invented by Gingrich and adopted by both sides; Americans deserve much better.

let them fight, and then let the regular bodies step in to clean house and get on with the work
Michigan Republicans are doubling down on the MAGA extremism that cost them last year's midterm elections in the state, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

At least four county GOP groups are at war within themselves, with lawsuits firing back and forth among members, competing slates claiming leadership and even physical altercations at party meetings. The new Michigan Republican chairwoman Kristina Karamo has struggled with fundraising and abandoned the organization's longtime headquarters, reported the Post.

“Some people in the party have always said that I was too far to the right in terms of my messaging, and yet here I have somehow become the RINO,” said DePerno, who was formally censured at last weekend's regional GOP meeting.

DePerno, an election-denying candidate for attorney general who earned Trump's endorsement before losing in November, has challenged Karamo's leadership and accused her of carrying out a religious purge of the state party.

“The questions that I got almost every night at these events during the chair race were, you know, ‘Man, why don’t you publicly evangelize?’” said DePerno, who is Catholic. “‘You can evangelize, right? Why don’t you say amen? Why don’t you raise your hands to the sky when people are talking?’”
