Civil trials do require evidence. The fact that it went to trial and a guilty verdict was rendered indicates that evidence was provided that was deemed sufficient to convict. The standard of evidence is less than it is in a criminal trial, but a conviction requires more than simply making an accusation. The whole system is built on a series of laws and rules and procedures designed to thoroughly review the circumstances and come to a balanced conclusion. It isn't perfect but the mere fact that due process led to a guilty verdict tells you that there was sufficient evidence to do so.

Without being in the courtroom or reading the transcript, it's clear the jury (6 men and 3 women) who heard from both sides determined the evidence was enough to find him guilty. Trump incriminated himself several times in his comments and tweets over the years. Plaintiff had witnesses, defendant had no one, not even the defendant could be bothered to show up. He doesn't care.
