The earliest sources for St. George vs. the dragon dates to the 11th century from a Georgian record. Supposedly the dragon was terrifying the residents of the major city of Cyrene in present-day northeastern Libya. So no dragon slaying then?
I wonder what a "real dragon looks like" . Oh yes the internet and GIFThe earliest sources for St. George vs. the dragon dates to the 11th century from a Georgian record. Supposedly the dragon was terrifying the residents of the major city of Cyrene in northeastern Libya.
He was born in Lydda, in the area of modern day Israel, and a soldier of the Roman empire.Aren’t Georgia and Libya quite far apart? That would then be tales rather than facts. Of course dragons are real, they are listed on the internet![]()
St George was from Cappadocia in Turkey and had nothing to do with England. He was only “discovered” by Richard the Lionheart on his Crusade In the 12th century. The original patron saint of England was St Edmund who was martyred by the Vikings in the 9th century. He had an enormous shrine at Bury St EdmundsI'm English and I don't know.
Our national flag is his cross. I think there's church services and official flag flying etc.
From a quick Google he was from the middle ages and born in Turkey but never even came to England.
Usually anything patriotic here is taken over by the same people who inflicted Brexit on us so I usually avoid it
Did you never see Game of Thrones. I think that was a fairly good reproduction of them.I wonder what a "real dragon looks like" . Oh yes the internet and GIF
I need to watch. I heard it is easier to follow tthe series han the books which I started and could never fully get into.Did you never see Game of Thrones. I think that was a fairly good reproduction of them.
Yes but the record was found in Georgia, or that’s the way I understood VV.He was born in Lydda, in the area of modern day Israel, and a soldier of the Roman empire.
Me tooI've learned more about St George in an hour than I've ever been taught. Thanks all for the info![]()
True. Georgia was also at some point part of the Roman empire - some parts even when St George died (the area wasn't called Georgia then), and the rest was ruled by 2 kingdoms, one of them was one of the earlier Christian kingdoms ever.Yes but the record was found in Georgia, or that’s the way I understood VV.
I was never taught anything about almost any saint, as the Lutheran church here is protestant and doesn't keep saints.I've learned more about St George in an hour than I've ever been taught. Thanks all for the info![]()

I suppose you could follow the same logic with Lord of the RingsI am so amazed how smart and beautiful people are here on Chaos.

Lutherans do not keep saints nor do they think Mary was very important. I was raised a Luthern. Not so much anymore. Google search has replaced the encyclopedia.I was never taught anything about almost any saint, as the Lutheran church here is protestant and doesn't keep saints.
But combine some googling, and knowledge about history and geography...
My moms side of the family are all Lutheran. Although I think they have all renounced their membershipLutherans do not keep saints nor do they think Mary was very important. I was raised a Luthern. Not so much anymore. Google search has replaced the encyclopedia.
It is funny you say that but the Lord of the Rings was so easy for me to read, I read 3 times at least over the years. Weird how one author's writing style clicks and another does not.I suppose you could follow the same logic with Lord of the Rings![]()
I switched to a more modern style of Church. I learned long ago, belonging to a church or claiming to be Christian does not mean you are spirtual or a good person. Sorry I forgot the rules of chaos. My moms side of the family are all Lutheran. Although I think they have all renounced their membership![]()
I was raised Lutheran, in principle, and I even had to participate on religion classes in school upset till 6th grade. My moms side of the family are all Lutheran. Although I think they have all renounced their membership![]()
These kind of posts made me bite my tongue and not get started about the other effects...I am reading Dagens Nyheter (Sweden’s daily news) and the one article about cancer states that red wine is good for preventing cancer. Well considering how much I drank last night I think I might be immortal![]()
