Gun violence, American style - 1 in 5

An assault rifle has been designed with features for combat rather than target shooting or hunting. They are designed specifically for destroying people.

Some of the AR specs that are not designed to be advantageous for sport are:

* Hypersonic projectile velocity
The .30-06 a common hunting round has a higher projectile velocity.
* High speed action and cooling for high rates of fire.
Because it is semi-automatic the speed of fire is how fast the shooter can pull the trigger. Same applies to asll semi-automatic rifles.
* High capacity magazines
Available for many sporting rifles all the way down to .22lr hunting rifles.
* Lighter weight and smaller ammunition than typically used for hunting, in order to make it easier to carry large quantities.
5.56 is what is called an intermediate cartridge. The case is smaller and the projectile is smaller. 5.56/.223 is used for varmint hunting, like prairie dogs or coyotes, and some places allow its use for deer hunting. On an interesting side note the US Army is moving away from the 5.56 round to the 6.8mm and a new rifle system to replace the M-16/M-4.
* Inline design to prevent muzzle rise and drift while rapid firing.
Nothing new. Be around for decades if not longer.
* Flash suppression
Not common on sporting rifles, but not unheard of.
* Newer specs include shortened frames for carbines for close combat advantages.
For civilian use the barrel still has to meet a minimum of 16 inches to not be labeled an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). Anything under 16 inches requires a federal permit and tax stamp.
* Accessory rails for tactical attachments.
Depending on the type of hunting you do the accessory rails allow mounting of a scope, laser sighting, or a flashlight. Hog hunters often hunt at night and a mounted flashlight is a necessity for that.
* Rifling designed specifically for a variety of different weighted ammunition including tracers and armor piercing rounds.
I can't comment on this because I don't know the answer. I do know the M-16 can vary between 1 in 7, one turn in 7 inches, and 1 in 12, one turn in 12 inches.

The essential difference between a so called "Assault Rifle" and a sporting rifle is that an assault rifle is selective fire meaning it can be fired fully automatic, one trigger pull fires multiple rounds, and semi-automatic meaning one shot for each trigger pull. All civilian models are semi-automatic.
They have no idea what an assault rifle is. They don’t want to know either. They’ve been fed the talking points and recite them.

Which “they” are you referring to?

The military knows exactly what specifications they want for “assault rifles”.

It’s easy to find many sources online if you search “Military assault rifle specifications”

It seems that gun nuts are the only people who can’t describe them.

That's why I love explaining it.

The Sturmgewehr was the first one and the direct translation is storm rifle. But why let history and facts cloud opinion.

I did very clearly. you just won't accept it.

So you agree that it is easy to define what is and is not an assault weapon. ✅
California state regulators have been trying to figure it out for years. I’m old enough to remember when a semi automatic with a standard magazine release was part of the criteria. That led to the introduction of the “bullet button.” Then they decided bullet buttons were part of the definition and those of us with that feature had to convert our guns to standard mag releases or register them as “assault rifles.” You can’t make this shit up.

Right? That’s the kind of shit that happens when everything is constantly in legal limbo.

I think both MA and CA have been redefining the characteristics of assault weapon to fit their legislative narrative. If they can convince citizens by bastardizing the definition of what an assault weapon is, hiding behind the letters AR to mean assault rifle makes it easier to sell the idea for banning it. IMHO

Under the 2a can you provide a justification for restricting citizens from possessing fully automatic firearms?

Within the interpretation by the high court, nope! Although there are legal caveats to owning an automatic firearm such as an M-16, classIII license, manufactured date prior to 1986 and about 25,000 to 50,000 in cash. The government did a pretty good job of regulating them out of existence.

Do all American men have little cocks, hence their need to brag about the size of their guns?
When you going to start thinking about what is right for mankind and your country rather than " it's my constitutional right that I can pretend to be Rambo".

The rest of civilized society either pisses themselves laughing at you or shaking their heads in disbelief.

That is excellent justification for amending the 2a.

Congress could if they had the balls, but they don’t! They’re too incompetent and too interested in staying in office. I bet you’d get meaningful legislation if Congress had to serve within term limits.

when even geraldo rivera is taking pot shots at the NRA and republicans attending their conference...

Watching politicians, gushing at NRA about ending virtually all checks and balances when it comes to weapons is painful. Lying Rep George Santos is right. AR 15 is America’s Rifle. It should be banned. It’s warlike, which is why so many deranged fantasizing mass shooters use it.

"At least 4 dead, 20 injured at bloody birthday party for a 16-year old in Dadeville Alabama. So many guns, so many dead kids. Gun violence #1 cause of death of American teenagers. NRA rules," he tweeted.
meanwhile, trump is all, it's the fault of trans/weed/mental health:"I will ask Congress to repeal totally ineffective legislation that makes it harder to protect our schools and easier for criminals to face absolutely no opposition when they go in," he said. "For about $12 billion, we could fund armed security guards at the entrance to every school in America and also arm every willing teacher."
how many American adults have fond memories of attending school faced with armed security at the doors? why would ANYONE want to visit this on their kids?

Just tell ‘em AR means the gun came from Arkansas. AK means it came from Alaska. 😂

I have fond memories of drills that had us crawl under our desks to prepare for nuclear attacks. Lol. I feel bad for the kids that were locked out of schools entirely and suffered serious consequences because of public health official’s irresponsible responses to a virus that rarely killed or harmed children.

When did you know for certain what the lethality of COVID-19 would peak at?

When were you first certain that mutations weren’t going to be a bigger problem?

The entire lockdown strategy was for two reasons:
1. To isolate people from each other, reducing the spread
2. To prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.

For what was known at the time about the virus, both were reasonable precautions.

Certainly there are many results/risks of the global pandemic that were not known or considered at the time.

How about the public health workers, educators, and parents who came in contact with the infected kids and died? Dumbass/
