Gun violence, American style - 1 in 5

Its easy to become hostile when you offer serious ideas and discussions and are hit with nothing but asshole comments about how I am someone other than who I am, insulted by people who have nothing to add but decide to pile on to please YOU and others here, and haven't had one serious suggestion on what to do because you can't even define what it is you want to ban.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck what any of you say or what you think of me. You are all classic internet bullies that try to shout down anyone with a differing opinion. What shocks all of your fuck heads is I am not running away. So rock on, who cares. I enjoy every minute of your time I waste.
You seem awfully invested for somebody who doesn't care.

You've offered nothing beyond what has already been put on the table and handily rejected by those you support who wish to continue to ease up regulations on guns and want to continue to flood the market. You seem to want to have your cake and eat it too. Good luck with that.

Regardless of your desire to own the libs, more people died today because of gun violence. And they'll die tomorrow, and the next day and the day after that. Ad infinitum until the issue is actually tackled.

Curiously, what do you propose for dealing with the mental health issues as they relate to possession of firearms?
I have said this repeatedly so here we go again.

So many of these mass shootings the families have said they tried desperately to get mental health help for their loved one and were rebuffed only to have their loved one commit these heinous crimes. If a family member believes that someone in their family is showing signs of potential violent behavior they should be able to get at the minimum of a psych evaluation done, or better yet a 72 hour psych evaluation in patient hold. This may be able to offset some of these shootings by getting them off the street and evaluated and then if needed, psychiatric help.

I have no clear idea about how to introduce a clear, safe, not manipulated, evaluation for purchasing guns.

Give me your definition of an assault rifle.

An assault rifle has been designed with features for combat rather than target shooting or hunting. They are designed specifically for destroying people.

Some of the AR specs that are not designed to be advantageous for sport are:

* Hypersonic projectile velocity
* High speed action and cooling for high rates of fire.
* High capacity magazines
* Lighter weight and smaller ammunition than typically used for hunting, in order to make it easier to carry large quantities.
* Inline design to prevent muzzle rise and drift while rapid firing.
* Flash suppression
* Newer specs include shortened frames for carbines for close combat advantages.
* Accessory rails for tactical attachments.
* Rifling designed specifically for a variety of different weighted ammunition including tracers and armor piercing rounds.

You don’t need that shit for hunting or target practice.

Blah, blah, blah. Same tired old shit, nothing to add so nit pick. Genius.
Everyone on this thread has added more than you are capable of contributing or comprehending. You refute facts with, "nu huh!" so having a reasoned logical conversation with you is an exercise in futility.

So you’ve got nothing except for wanting to allow someone to be arrested and observed for three days based on someone else’s say so?

🤔 Do you not see the possibility of abuse there?

Red flag laws are the most promising solution. Many states have them but they vary widely and their effectiveness is unclear. A big part of making them work is informing the public of their existence.

You reject my ideas but have no viable ones of your own. Funny how that works.

The fear is they will be used improperly to punish political enemies.

I didn't say arrested. Show me where I said that.

Every law, including red flag laws, have the potential for abuse.

👍

Oh you’re right, you didn’t say “arrest.” How very astute of you. That would be a 5150 - a detainment.

The semantic difference being - A detainment may not result in criminal charges where an arrest will.

Either way it’s gonna ruin your plans, keep you out of work, and make you late for dinner for a few days.

And if it stops you from shooting the shit out of some place and murdering people then sorry for the inconvenience.

That’s exactly how I feel about keeping assault weapons out of the hands of citizens.

You got anything to add to my description of an assault rifle and how they are different than sports equipment?

Your ideas? The ideas which have been talked about ad nauseum for the past 10+ years by the democrats but been rejected by the republicans.

Funny how that works.

Go back to the shallow end of the pool.

Some of the AR specs that are not designed to be advantageous for sport are:

* Hypersonic projectile velocity
The .30-06 a common hunting round has a higher projectile velocity.
* High speed action and cooling for high rates of fire.
Because it is semi-automatic the speed of fire is how fast the shooter can pull the trigger. Same applies to asll semi-automatic rifles.
* High capacity magazines
Available for many sporting rifles all the way down to .22lr hunting rifles.
* Lighter weight and smaller ammunition than typically used for hunting, in order to make it easier to carry large quantities.
5.56 is what is called an intermediate cartridge. The case is smaller and the projectile is smaller. 5.56/.223 is used for varmint hunting, like prairie dogs or coyotes, and some places allow its use for deer hunting. On an interesting side note the US Army is moving away from the 5.56 round to the 6.8mm and a new rifle system to replace the M-16/M-4.
* Inline design to prevent muzzle rise and drift while rapid firing.
Nothing new. Be around for decades if not longer.
* Flash suppression
Not common on sporting rifles, but not unheard of.
* Newer specs include shortened frames for carbines for close combat advantages.
For civilian use the barrel still has to meet a minimum of 16 inches to not be labeled an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). Anything under 16 inches requires a federal permit and tax stamp.
* Accessory rails for tactical attachments.
Depending on the type of hunting you do the accessory rails allow mounting of a scope, laser sighting, or a flashlight. Hog hunters often hunt at night and a mounted flashlight is a necessity for that.
* Rifling designed specifically for a variety of different weighted ammunition including tracers and armor piercing rounds.
I can't comment on this because I don't know the answer. I do know the M-16 can vary between 1 in 7, one turn in 7 inches, and 1 in 12, one turn in 12 inches.

The essential difference between a so called "Assault Rifle" and a sporting rifle is that an assault rifle is selective fire meaning it can be fired fully automatic, one trigger pull fires multiple rounds, and semi-automatic meaning one shot for each trigger pull. All civilian models are semi-automatic.

Thank you for making the case that we should ban all guns.

Good points for many of those.

30-06 is a good hunting load, not typically used in assault rifles because of the excessive weight compared to 5.56 or .223.

I fully support banning semi-auto for citizens. Sure I’d have to give up a couple of my favorites but I’m okay with that if it means fewer of them on the streets. Personal protection works well with a revolver, even my 80yo mom carries a five shot .357m.

What good is flash suppression for hunting?

Are you okay with the SBR laws? Those need to go out the window with the GOP version of “shall not be infringed” or is there some legal justification I’m missing?

Why should it be considered constitutional to regulate SBRs and full Autos?
