British Music

Fun fact. I grew up with the Arctic Monkeys as schoolmates.

Anyone for Oasis?
Yes. I adore Oasis. Some of the best songs in recorded music. Rarely mentioned but Half The World Away is a masterpiece.

The line makes me giggle too! Such an absolute waste of a life, never mind the liver. He did not deserve to get that. He was up there with Pele when God was handing out football talent.
Too bad, being Northern Irish, he was never going to be able to show his stuff in the World Cup. If you search “George Best NASL goal” or George Best Earthquakes goal” on YouTube, you will see a pudgy Best take the ball after a goal and dribble through the other team and score an incredible goal.

Having seen a documentary on him, I do think he probably reaped what he sowed, alas

Ride, The Boo Radleys, Slowdive and even Mojave 3 were all wonderful as well.

I grew up with a guy who played in the Major Indoor Soccer League. That’s all I got

All the British music, really. The Beatles are always tops for me, but maybe I'll list some more current ones instead... Flo and her machine, Chvrches, Louis Dunford, George Ezra, Banners. I could really go on for ages here.

ETA: I better not forget Travis either.

Both this version (my preferred) and the more popular version by Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse are by great British artists.

Quite possibly the best song ever to come out of the UK and this performance is the greatest.

Skip to 4.30 if you just want an epic guitar solo.

This thread is for me. I’m American but an Anglophile for sure. Especially music, football, pub culture, youth culture etc.

Love the old school freakbeat: The Flies, The Creation, The Pretty Things

Northern Soul: mostly American soul, but damned cool.

70s Bootboy/Bovver Rock: The Crunch, Iron Virgin, The Fresh (this genre is amazingly great imo)

Punk: Sex Pistols, The Clash, Chelsea, The Lurkers

Oi! : Cockney Rejects, Sham69, Cock Sparrer, The 4Skins

Britpop: Blur, Suede, Ride, Supergrass

Ride is the loudest band I’ve ever seen. Seen them3x. Only worn earplugs for ride (second two times) and Motörhead (every time).

If I saw The Swans again, I would wear earplugs too.

I freaking love The Kooks and Joy Division…not sure if mentioned.

Also have to mention my two fave brit bands of all time.
McFly and Busted 🤭😌
I’m jetting myself to England this Summer to see them perform.

Have you ever visited the UK?

That comes across as aggressive but it isn't. Just asking :)

Yes. Many times. Most recently in October. Was able to see wolves away at Brentford before i started a week of meetings.

Been all over the south and some of the midlands, but never to the north, which I will do one day.

No offense taken.

Being a Northerner, I'm obviously biased but we've got some stunning country up here. You'll enjoy it.

My favourite Bestie..
One night, a waiter was delivering champagne to Best’s hotel room, only to be confronted by thousands of pounds of casino winnings and the current Miss World lying on the bed. Without missing a beat, legend has it, he looked at the Manchester United icon and uttered the immortal words: “Where did it all go wrong?”
