The main takeaway from the use of cars as weapons is that they are already heavily regulated and licensed. They are driven by people who are known to the government and have been regulated and licensed by the government. Which kind of puts the screws to the idea of government regulation of vehicles or guns being any kind of effective safety barrier to psychotic or criminal behavior.
That's not the main takeaway for an intellectually consistent person. First cars are very rarely used as weapons, because they are not weapons. They are modes of transportation. Its really THAT simple.
