Anyone done every catagory?

I came up with a neat idea yesterday that will fall into the letters/transcripts category. As I was looking over the category list I got to wonder if anyone has tried to do them all yet. It might be an interesting goal.

It's a vague goal of mine (excluding audio and illustrated). I'm not doing them sequentially nor in any particular hurry, but I am keeping a list of what I've done. I'm about halfway through.

This... seems like a reasonable challenge to establish. Though, it seems almost certain that most writers are going to have serious personal problems or challenges with a category or two.

Maybe establish a "clean sweep" nod for stories in all but one or two categories?

Not that anyone would care, but, you know, bragging rights. 🤷‍♂️

I've thought about setting it as a goal, but never committed to it. It would be an interesting challenge. There are 32 categories. I've published stories in Exhibitionist, Incest, Loving Wives, Anal, Group Sex, Humor & Satire, Letters, BDSM, Mature, Celebrities/Fan Fiction, Erotic Horror, Sci Fi, Toys, and Erotic Couplings. That's 14. So I have a long way to go.

I think a few people have tried but I have no idea if anyone's actually succeeded. That said, there's a few categories I wouldn't touch, but that's just personal preference.

I kinda have it in the back of my mind. I've done the only one that actively repulses me (Incest) so will probably get there eventually. Just counted and I've done 13 categories.

LW would have to be last...

Looking at your stories, you are already well on your way

I wouldn't attempt it merely for the challenge, but if I eventually get inspired to write a story that fits into every category, so be it.

Writing simply for the act of writing isn't of interest to me. We advise new writers to "write for yourself", so I intend to practice what I preach and write what I would want to read.

I have written on subjects that I don't find personally appealing, but in those cases, the motivation was financial, which is not something that I expect to ever experience here.

What if we allowed bragging rights at 28 categories?
For reference the 32 categories listed on the Literotica main page are:

Ignoring the fact that any given writer might just not like one of the categories, a few of them present specific problems

NonEnglish - You either speak another language well enough to write a story in it or you don't.
Audio - Not everyone is going to be happy recording their own voice and not everyone has a sexy voice. You can get help but it's a challenge finding someone.
Illustrated - Not everyone can draw to any great standard.
Chain Stories - One part of a chain story was posted in 2022 (not much of a chain) and before that the last ones were in 2018. I suppose its still possible to organize one with likeminded people but it clearly doesn't happen often.
Novels (arguably) - most people can write a novel length story, but often it might be more appropriate for views and rating to stick it in another category. It might seem a bit like sending a long story off to die just to check a box (although it also includes Novellas which are much shorter)

I think this is the sort of challenge that it's up to everyone to define their own rules for. For example, I've written a couple of 750-word stories in new categories for me (Trans and Fetish) but I'm not really counting those as it seems like a cop out and will double back and do them 'properly' later. Other people might disagree with this. I think doing all of the other 27 categories in some form works as a basic challenge though.

Looking at your stories, you are already well on your way
Yeah, largely by accident - I don't really have a favourite genre and just like writing different things or plots that interest me.

Looking at the five you highlighted, I wouldn't be interested in writing any of them except an Illustrated story. I'd have to work on my drawing skills but I've seen some Illustrated stories do well without great artwork. So if I were to take the challenge I would try to do 28, or double what I've done so far. I might knock off a few more this year.

The right question is: "Has anyone done all, or even a majority of categories WELL?"
I do not believe any author can truly understand every category and kink and write an authentic story. I've seen some incredibly prolific and popular authors write stories in categories that are clearly not something they know and understand intimately, and while they do wrap everything up, you can tell they don't understand the substance.

Well the Ironman version of the challenge would be to get a H in each category. I'm a lot further away from that...

Good points. It is not hard to imagine doing all the 'story' categories (although it is definitely hard to write a kink for which you have no interest (am trying one at the moment, just to see if I can make it work), but others pose difficulties.

The format ones are troublesome as you pointed out (audio, illustrated) but a few others are also odd (chain stories as noted, and I have always been puzzled why 'non-erotic' exists as a category on an erotic literature site.) Reviews, How to, also different but hardly out of place, and certainly possible to do.

This is a minor goal of mine, although I will never make it, and have 24 under the belt.

Not yet, but give me time. I have plans to be in at least 12 categories by the evening the year, then I’ll look at the others. Non-English is going to be a bitch, though; better get cracking on Duolingo.

Of the 32 categories I could see dog just 24 of them, for various reasons. So maybe it's not as simple as thought. But it would be interesting still, at least to me.

Meh, red H is hardly a measure of something being done right. Popular authors bring too many followers and fans who are almost guaranteed to vote with a 5*.

As sr71plt, I've done every category except audio and illustrated and received Green Es in seven of the categories. I posted to six different categories in one contest. Regardless of this, I had a stalker on the discussion board who constantly went after me as only writing GM, so I split off into different accounts emphasizing different categories so when I wrote to categories other than GM they weren't colored by what I write the most. I still write to some twenty categories across my accounts.

I few of the categories are turn offs to extreme turn offs to me, so I don't see myself ever doing that.

Plus I'm also a 'gimmick writer' - I have my theme, and I stick to it. At least with erotica. With non-erotica I've got a fairly broad range of unpublished junk sitting around the dusty corners of my hard drives...

I started here with the full intention, a challenge to myself, to hit every category. I'm close to 20, but have lost all interest in the game. As others have said, there are some areas which I simply have no interest in or for which I am technically incompetent. I might be more motivated if the paycheque was better.

I'm doing that right now... slowly. Writing in the Sci-Fi Fantasy category was my enjoyable experience yet, while I loved writing in the Anal category a lot more than I thought I would. I still have many categories to cover, but it's proving to be a fun challenge.

Literotica used to have a Survivor Challenge where authors competed to write for as many different categories as possible: https://forum.literotica.com/forums/survivor-contest.30/

NonEnglish - You either speak another language well enough to write a story in it or you don't.

Or you learn one. Duolingo's free, though it might not cover all the necessary vocabulary ;-)

But Non-English isn't a real story category in the way the others are. Stories don't normally get posted with "Non-English" as their category; instead, if you click the category, normally the only entry is a list of languages to choose from. Each language has its own versions of the standard Literotica categories e.g. German has "Gruppensex", "Lesbischer Sex", "Erotische Verbindungen" [Erotic Couplings] and so on.

I say "normally" because just now there is in fact one real story categorised as "Non-English", the first time I've ever seen one there. I assume that was a mistake though, since it's in English aside from one sentence in Hindi.

I'm trying to do all the categories that I deem reasonable, and will likely have to omit the ones you've mentioned, like Illustrated, Audio etc. I'm also trying to set all my cross-category stories in the same "world", with all stories featuring my recurring lead male character, though sometimes in a supporting role, and from a different POV. I've got ideas for most categories, and have already used a literary conceit that some might view as "cheating". I readily admit that some of these cross-category stories may ring a little false, and might be called out for it, but I can cop that. I am particularly concerned about Humor & Satire...

I've thought about it, people have said they would, how many done it- well, I don't recall them coming back and saying they did it. I have no interest in it.
