"Elvis and the Beatles stole rock and roll from Black musicians". I've made a lot of enemies debunking that one.
I also had a girlfriend years ago who worshipped Malcolm X and called me a racist for having some reservations about the things he had to say before his split with the Nation of Islam (never mind that Malcom X himself considered his former beliefs racist after the fact!). She herself knew next to nothing about the man - I don't think she'd even seen the movie - and I remember her acknowledging that I knew a lot more about the facts than she did. It didn't seem to occur to her that that knowledge might inform my "racist" view.
And yes, she was white.
