Well, I just got the phone call... Mom's husband died this morning.

We weren't close but he was a good guy and good to my mother.

I will be extra naughty today to cover up my sadness...

Just returned from the vet. All the blood work and tests were normal and he does have issues of staring into nothingness at night (old dog normal). He does need reading glasses -

A friend of mine had a cat who in his old days lost his night vision. He didn't dare to jump up/down from bed in the dark. Most of his hearing, too - he as unaware my friend had come home until she went within 1m of him.

Everything is status quo
We are looking into renting an all one floor house in about 2 months. It will less stress for both of us, especially her. Rents in Eaton, Ohio are reasonable. The one we're looking into is $1,100 month for a three bedroom, two bath w/attached garage.
Full kitchen, washroom, big back yard and patio

Trying to get in touch with the lady friend I saw last week. I've sent a couple of messages this weekend and she hasn't seen them or responded to them. I'm used to a lot of people not seeing my messages and they get lost in the shuffle. I'm worried about seeming too eager, mean, etc. I don't know what to do.

Well, this went south in a hurry.

I heard from her last night, and she was mad, depressed, and self-harming over the fact she can't find a stable relationship with someone who wants to have a baby with her; she can't really have a baby because of certain medical issues. She kept asking what kind of fundamental/moral quality did she lack that was stopping her, etc. She's always in a relationship with someone or other, so she has no problem there.

I was woefully inadequate to handle this, but I did the best I could. I tried to reiterate that she was perfectly capable of having what she wants; it just hasn't happened yet. That wasn't what she wanted. She wanted someone to give her concrete steps on what to do, or tell her why she was unworthy. Which was impossible. I just tried to ride things out as best I could and listen. I went through every adjective I could think of to try to help, but I came up short, and it hurt my soul. The words would not come. I just wanted to cuddle her until the pain went away, but it's not that simple.

I'm a little concerned I said too much about my feelings last night, but I was doing it in the vain attempt to get her to understand that men can have mature feelings for her and what she wants; I made a real clunker at one point. Something like that. I kept saying, "I care," but it felt so impotent.

She did say that anything sexual wouldn't be satisfying right now. I said that she needed to take a step back and that I fully encouraged it. I'm just trying to be supportive and encouraging. I asked if she needed some physical support, like someone to sit with her, etc., and she said no.

Dear friends, please do not read too much into what I'm going to say here. I'm not trying to make this about myself, but I want to explain something. This is the kind of thing I've gone through in dating/sex all my life. Things just blow up in completely bizarre and unpredictable ways. I quit trying because it happened literally one too many times. So maybe this explains a little more about where I come from.
