What’s your most controversial opinion?

America makes a lot of really good things. Chocolate is not one of them. Nor are biscuits. Snickerdoodles though? Perfection. Give yourself a pat on the back for that one. 🤤

America makes lots and lots of crappy mass-produced chocolate. America does, however, also make some of the best chocolate in the world. Artisan brands like Vosges and Chuao and Donnelly and who knows how many more are as good as any in the world. (I'll freely concede that American mass-produced chocolate is generally inferior to mass-produced chocolate in Europe. I mean, a Hershey bar is just gross, as are Kisses.) (I also concede that I need to spend a week in Brussels.)

Chuao is so good. Trader Joes used to sell basically the same chocolate as the Chuao Firecracker but for less than half the price. It was a sad day when they stopped.

Hawaii is the only US state that can actually produce cacao, as far as I know. Most comes from Central and America, is transported to other countries and processed.
I’ve had some extraordinary chocolate below the equator that never makes it to Europe or North America.
