The Democratic Party has been well meaning on civil rights since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed into law. Democrats want to help blacks. Initially Democratic policy was based on the assumption that intrinsic racial differences do not matter, or do not even exist.

Now there is a vigorous and too successful effort by the left to suppress the dialogue on race President Clinton called for, while to continue to act as though race is only a social construct.

Political policies based on assumptions about humans that are untrue fail, and usually have unfortunate effects. There is often wisdom in tradition. We should not over estimate human nature and human potential.

You still suck at reading minds. Those children are failing, miserably so. Why in the world I want to talk to an instrument of their failure?

Engelman has a point that everyone is trying to avoid and that point is that there is a serious problem within the nations black communities. If there can be no agreement on that point then there is no basis for discussion.

Me? I don't care what you blame it on but I will submit that no law passed by man will solve the problem. And no amount of money spent will solve the problem either. We've been throwing money at the problem for 60 years now with no real signs of improvement. And there are some that would argue, with some merit, that the problem has gotten worse.

Any real and significant solution will have to come from within the black community itself. They will have to decide that enough is enough and take action.
