Chaos: Don't Stress, Undress

lesser sportsball being scheduled the same day as major sportsball. Travesty.
It’s a travesty! Haha
My kids did theatre and I was always the parent that coordinated things. One show the director scheduled strike, the time when you take down the sets, for the same day/time as the Super Bowl and couldn’t figure out why I wanted her to change it.
When no one signed up she realized she had no choice lol

what was the job that killed it?
So, from 2001 to 2015 I worked in commercial radio. I was a behind the scenes guy. In 2011 I started running the board for the morning show on a sports talk station. The guy who wasn’t a sports fan working in sports talk was a weird situation.

Every Monday morning I’d have to get in at around 3 or 3:30 in the morning to capture all the football highlights because the weekend crew couldn’t be bothered to do it. I was so glad when I was moved to doing only production work and not having to get highlights.

Before you ask, I got canned by a program director who, for whatever reason, didn’t like me all that much. Thirty days before handing me my walking papers he tells me that I couldn’t be on any commercials longer than a five second sponsorship because my voice wasn’t, and I quote, “up to standard.” That should have been a huge red flag.

That was 2015. I’ve been out of the business since. From what I’ve been seeing the last few years, I would have wound up getting jettisoned at some point anyway. People have been getting laid off or fired left and right because of downsizing. One friend of mine said radio doesn’t know what it wants to be these days.

I heart radio has take over the world it seems. I have 3 friends who work locally here. Pretty crazy.

I worked for that company when it was still called ClearChannel. The last company I worked for was Entercom, which merged with CBS several years after I got the boot.

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 really fucked over the industry. Deregulation let the big corporations own a majority of the stations in a given market. I don’t even listen to the radio anymore. I listen to podcasts or audiobooks during my commute.

sometimes I miss old radio. Though mostly I just miss Lex & Terry's Drunk Bitch Friday. Made Friday mornings that much better.

oh speaking of sportsball, we lose most of the american men tomorrow right? but they will be well fed and half lit, when they come back online late at night?

I’ve never had a friend or partner that was interested in the big sportsball games for more than the commercials. My best friend once had a boyfriend who invited me over along with her to a superbowl party - it was so boring that we sat with the chips and dip gossiping about the halftime show. 🤷🏼
