On your first meeting with someone you find out ...

... you find out the person is a migrant farm worker that moves from state to state as produce is ready.

Definitely interests me from a non-romantic social perspective. Farm work sounds so demanding.

From a romantic standpoint it disinterests me. If I'm gonna be crushing and all lovey-dovey over her, I'm gonna want the kind of access that state to state travel doesn't gel with. Of course, I live on the west coast so "state to state" is a lot of travel. For east coasters, that might not be nearly as much distance involved.

Someone I’m attracted to that is absolutely prevented from becoming a clinging smotherer because they have to follow the work? And the potential for abundant fresh produce? Where do I sign up?

There are stories of bad cops all over. Tell the good stories?

This last Christmas, wife and I were heading to a family dinner at a restaurant. It was cold out, 30⁰F and getting colder. This hispanic young mom's car broke down in the middle of the road. She was so young, she didn't know what to do. She was wearing shorts and flip flops and no jacket. She got her baby out of the car and was crying because she wasn't sure what to do. I got out and got her to get in my car to get warm while we figured out what to do for her.

Inside a minute, a (caucasian male) cop showed up and did some traffic control, and came along to see if he could help. He was off duty, returning home to his family as I found out- because I asked how he had arrived so quickly. With help from some nearby landscapers who wandered over, they got her SUV out of traffic and into a parking lot. He made sure she had a ride home and called to have her vehicle towed to where she wanted.

I know there are bad cops. I hate hearing about that stuff, because it really is awful. And I have had more than my share of encounters with them on the wrong side of the law. There are good ones too. The press and everyone needs to hear more stories about the good things many cops do.

....and another thing....no where in the OP did it say anything about dating a cop, fucking one, or anything. I see a lot of people reading into it what they want. We can easily assume....dealbreaker...whatever....but you know what? Who cares. Ask about prostitutes next. Would you date a prostitute who wasn't going to give up their job? Or porn stars? Garbage men? Part time working slobs living in mom's basement? There's controversy where you wanna make it. People reading too much into shit. If I don't like cops....that does not mean I hate them. If I don't like men, that does not mean I hate them. Be for real. Situations and circumstances are different individually and you all know it. Blanket generalizing serves no one and is often incorrect and makes the accuser look and sound stupid.

My friend is a police officer who specializes in crimes against the elderly.

He leads meditation groups. He leads ptsd support groups for men. He does yoga.

And he takes down nursing homes that kill old people and make money off of it.

He carries concealed and I’m relieved about that. I’m glad to know there’s guys like him walking around, armed, in crowded places.

He cringes when he sees the “bad cop” videos and dissects where they went wrong: “see the guys should have zigged right there, but instead they zagged.” He winces. He cries over it!

Funding cuts. Crappy pay. No recruits. Shitty training. He sees the problems.

And he’s single ladies. :)
So, lol, very dateable, imo.

Well, OP updated the question to "... you find out the person is a migrant farm worker that moves from state to state as produce is ready."

Were they a police officer before being a migrant worker or is it their ambition to be one?

How should I know? This is just a first meeting and I'm still trying to get to know her. Either way, I expect her to be very good with her hands.

SCORE!

And the clown bit.

Really, it's a general variety thread, PG style. Curious to see how people react when they find out what someone does for a living AFTER they've already engaged in conversation.

Oh so like the morning after? 🤣

True story. Happened just this week. A dude has a long history of beating up his gf. Cops had been called half a dozen times. Nothing happens. It is true...she lets him back into her life...but anyone that has experience with domestic violence knows this is common. Anyway...back to the story. This week, after he did it again...she defended herself with a knife. All she wanted was to leave. The dude...cut on the arm...calls the cops. Here they come. She is walking to her car...knife in hand...all she wanted to do was leave. Cops escalate the situation...as they do 100% of the time. She ignores them...just as they ignored her each time in the past. She gets in her car. She tries to leave. The cops move from where they are...and stand in front of the car. She backs up...drives through the yard to avoid them. They shoot her.

Dribs… you know I adore you. However, as a man of logic, these two statements cannot be true. Did they escalate 100% of the time or do nothing?

When we speak in absolutes, we generally lose our point somewhere in the mix.

And, for what it’s worth, I actually do agree that a massive issue in the police system is the escalation issue. Situations often become more serious than they should, simply because of needless escalation.

But I’ve been treated well by cops. And I’ve been treated poorly by cops. And I also realize that I’m a white guy with no criminal record driving a decent car with devilish good looks. My situation is going to be better than most.

And you said you 100% disagree with my quoted post. Which part? The part where I said prejudice and discrimination were a bad idea.

Let’s try the following sentences:

1. Cops have a statistically significant higher incidence of criminal behaviour. As a result, we should not trust any cops.

2. African American males have a higher incidence of criminal behaviour. As a result, we should not trust any African American males.

3. Muslims have a statistically significant higher incidence of terrorist activities. As a result, we should not trust any Muslims.

4. Fundamentalist Christians have a statistically significant higher incidence of hate speech. As a result, we should not trust any fundamentalist Christians.

5. Asian men have a statistically significant lower incidence of domestic violence. As a result, we should trust any Asian men.

Of these statements, which do you agree with and why?

(Also, I do believe these are all factually accurate statements. I can provide sources if we want to get picky, but I’m mostly using them for the sake of argument.)

Girl cops are hot!
My only problem would be my concern for her safety. It would drive me crazy knowing that she was in danger at all times.
I considered becoming a cop upon graduating, but I realized I don’t have the temperament for it.
I would shoot everyone. 😎
Plus, I’m not big on rules.
Or authority.
Or government.

But a young, short, thin girl who has the huge balls to put on a uniform and go out every night with the intention to protect and serve? Yup, I like her. 🥰

... the person is the direct offspring and heir of a major business person and is extremely wealthy.

I once did a thread like that on another forum. The setting was that you met the person and had a long conversation over coffee, lunch, drinks, etc. But for some reason they needed a ride home. The reason was left open. They give you directions and you pull into an estate and up to the front of a large mansion.

You're confused, because nothing in the conversation or their appearance, clothing or demeanor led you to suspect such.
