Official Support Thread - 5th Annual 750 Word Project

As promised, here is my first story
750-1 Saturday Morning
I'll submit my next story tomorrow. I'm like that kid who opens his Christmas presents slow to draw out the fun.

I got two comments already, and the first one was "I counted 770 words!!!"

Dear Astute Reader,
It appears that you also counted the part that said "Content Note: This is a little story for the 750 Word Project 2023. Beneath this line are exactly 750 words"

People warned me this would happen, but I said "No, it can't happen, nobody is that foolish..."
Was that Spyder something? I got that too. I could point out the obvious, but why wrestle pigs? One nice comment (thanks @yowser). And a score over 4, so I'll take that.

Could be something as simple as an extra gap by a hyphen, rendering a linked-up word as two linked -up words.
My section break * * * * counts as four words, so probably, yes, something simple like that.

Laurel's not going to knock back a story because of it, and if people are daft enough to actually count, what can you do?

Okay! If the story got published, can we all just say “WHO GIVES A FUCK WHETHER IT WAS COUNTED AS 750, 751, or 752!!!! It’s fine!!!

Apparently my search for 750 Word Project 2023 did not bring up all the stories that were posted today. Trying to track them all down still. Great stories, everyone.

Inspired by your bravery, I uploaded the first of my spy 750s for non-erotic. We'll see how this goes.

Post a link here so we can find it!
There are a few 750 Word Project tags also

Yes, we can say that. But, personally, I like knowing why different programs come up with different answers for something that should be so completely unambiguous as counting words. If all the programs were correct and bug-free, they would all arrive at the same answer.
My word count discrepency came up with my use of the em dash. I put spaces around it, and when I did that, Lit counted the emdash as a word. Someone else mentioned each asterisk in their scene break being counted as a word. Lit's software isn't counting words. It's counting groups of non-spaces. That's a bug.
I doubt the bug will ever get fixed. Lit's admins have bigger fish to fry.. But it scratches my geeky nerd pervert itch.

Zzzzzz….

I don't see that as a bug - a space signifies the end of a "word", surely?

Rendering of "* * * *" as four words isn't a bug. It's the way it's counted. Publishing doesn't have the wordage hang up that some authors engaging in a minor writing exercise seem to have.

If you can fill up a 750 word story with enough story to need a scene break with * * * * that's some intense writing

Way to go everyone, we survived our first day! 2️⃣7️⃣ more to go! These little stories are fun, I need to do a few more.

Why, thank you. I have two section breaks in the next one of mine that posts. (It was submitted today, but we'll have to see when it posts.)

Hmm. Not necessarily. I used a similar device as a fast-forward instead of relying on extra text to indicate passage of a few hours o' nothin'.

Lol. It was actually the break between the intro sentence saying, this is a 750 Word project story, and the actual story.
