By the time I was 30 my hair had gone completely silver.

Yes, giving kids at 16 the freedom to drive and get married then give them the right to drink at 18 was such a great idea . You can’t go to the casino till 20 though #priorities
By 21 I was well and truely done with drinking

Here for alcohol and tobacco it's 18, but there's a rule they ask anyone they think look under 30, to make sure they the underage kids don't slip without getting carded.

Some night clubs keep age limit 20, even 21, though 18 is the minimum.

It's the same age here. 18 is a legal age for getting into a club or buy alcohol at a bar, pub or restaurant. But the club can set an older age if they want.
It's 20 to buy alcohol in the liquor store though.

Clubs only refuse entry to those you who appear intoxicated.
Fun fact, I used to go clubbing sober, loved it AND it was cheaper. It’s the only time I was kicked out of a club. Apparently my hyperactive arse giving out ham Sammie’s from my bag to the drunk people around me was not something a sober person would do. It might’ve also been the energy drinks I’d consumed
