Hey,

Anyone know if there's publishing delays at present?

Had a new story in pending (it's been submitted; it's not in drafts, it hasn't been edited since, etc) for a week now.

Thanks,

A

My last non-contest submission took five business days. With the Valentine's Day contest entries pouring in, they will be getting priority for a while.

Brand-new writers often take longer to get published than ones who are 'established'. Maybe it's a trust thing? Looking at your page, it would seem that it has been quite while since you last published. Maybe the site is treating you like a newbie.

I would advise patience. If it hasn't gone up after a few more days, I would PM Laurel and ask.

Good luck.

My last story took about ten days. Normally it's now about three for me. I think Laurel must have had a bit of a break and is trying to catch up.

my last submission took about two weeks...
but it was very long, and i submitted it over the holidays...

I chased Laurel on why a story I had submitted on 2nd Jan had not been published a few days later. It got published, along with 20 others in the same category, the next day. My worst performing story yet (though far from the most poorly written). Sometimes the powers that be know what they are doing.

One of my stories that's the worst performing is one I like the most, for its writing. Sometimes you publish because the story should be out there. Screw the fickle public.

I know. I should be a better person. But I’m a bit vain as well. I don’t write for an audience, but it’s nice if one materializes. Who doesn’t like to be appreciated?

My point - if I have one - is that Laurel does seem to try to spread things out, so stories each get a little time in the sun.

Yeah I noticed not only that my current chapter is in pending for a while, but also some of the authors I followed (who normally post daily) also dried up. That's when I realized it's probably a bottleneck in the review process.

Yes, from what I've seen over the years, Laurel tries to load each category evenly and steadily. The length of time your story gets on the front page of the category is then down to the volume in that category. If you write in a high volume category like I&T, for example, don't expect long in the sun. Write in a low volume category like novellas, you might be on the front page for weeks.

I'm learning patience, posting in illustrated category. MINIMUM wait seems to be about 3 weeks.

Yep, that's been reported by others over the last year or so. Illustrated stories have always been batched, I think, and the cycle would appear to be lengthening. I reckon it's something to do with the server space needed to manage bigger file sizes.

FWIW I submitted a stand-alone BDSM story on 15th Jan and a new chapter in my Lesbian Sex story on 17th Jan. The lesbian story will be published tomorrow. The BDSM one doesn’t have a date yet.

Now the BDSM one is longer, which might be a factor, but equally I think it’s also Laurel spacing stories out within categories, which is generally in the authors’ best interests.

I've got one that's been hanging out in the queue for three days now, which is a new record for me. It's in LW, too, so not sure what the hold up is; that place has a pretty high burn rate. It's a shame; I'm looking forward to seeing how low the ratings are for a story that no one is probably going to like. ;) I think it'll be my new lowest!

Jim Valvano had this to say very near his last day of life...

"And when people say to me, “How do you get through life?” Each day's the same thing. To me, there are three things we all should do every day. If we do this every day of our life, you're going to … What a wonderful … Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think, you should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears. Could be happiness or joy, but think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.""

Let's try to remember writing, while fun, isn't life and death.

My first story took seven or eight days, after that, two to three days. Well, actually, the first story I posted took a lot longer as it was half a month before they'd post the Halloween tales.

Yeah, just had 3 out of my last 4 stories stall. Weirdly, going back to draft and then resubmitting them seems to bubble them back to the top of the queue - then each time they're up in the usual 2 days after resubmission.

Thing is, I'm dropping a story chapter a week so this hit and miss is kinda screwing up cadence. It would be absolutely fabulous to be able to say "Publish on date X" when submitting, to keep it regular for the readership, and let me load up chapters two weeks in advance. How do we request changes to the Lit site? It's gotta be a pretty small one...?

The best way to do that is write every chapter and submit them all at once, and ask Laurel to schedule a release, which she can do every 24 or 48 hours.

Other than that, if you're publishing as you go, it's a bit of a lucky dip, because it depends how many other stories are in the queue, and whether there's a Contest running.

You're newish to the site, or at least the AH - your query about requesting changes is very sweet, but since folk have been asking for a bi-sexual category for about twenty years, you'll have a bit of a wait :).

It would be great if the moderator would chime in on these discussions, but as authors, we are left in the dark. It's the same in the publishing world, I've discovered as a professional author.

I've been here since 2014 and have not once seen a submission run-time clock stated by the site. They just get on and process the stories in whatever time frame they have on the day, but don't waste time telling people. It's part of the furniture, and the answer is always the same - the story will eventually go live, or get rejected. Patience is a virtue, here on Literotica.

Or drop between the stools and not get published until a long time afterward when you asked. That does happen. I've experienced it a couple of times. There's no reason you shouldn't ask about it after a week or so of delay.

My rule of thumb is:-
If it's not published within 5 days, I can expect a rejection note in the coming days.

Hmmm I've been waiting since the 5th and the 9th to delete a story and a poem. I have followed up with an email several days ago...

To be fair one story is in the 750 category, but since that's a challenge, not a formal contest that has time restrictions, I can see why it might be on the back burner. I think the large number of 750s is keeping the gatekeepers busy. I will continue to be the very model of patience.

Yes, there is a quite a backlog of stories that are pending.
Mine are usually up within 48 hours.
I'm on Day 5 of "pending".
It can be annoying because you want to see your work published and see how it's received, but I've learned from my many conversations with Laurel, that she goes as quickly as she can.
