That is precisely why they are so dangerous. Black Bears look cute and cuddly. But an adult male black bear is a 4-500lb, six-and-a-half foot long killing and eating machine. It is the apex predator everywhere it lives unless there are Grizzly bears. (There was a year old bear at the camp where I have a trailer who got way too close to humans; we think he thought he was a dog. But even he was over 200lb. So what happens if a kid runs out of peanut butter sandwiches?)

We are lucky that they tend to be too lazy to kill you...they would rather steal a meal from a pack of wolves or a cougar.
