No... Giger was an artist. And aside from a few oddballs like Aliens 3, most of his work holds up today. The same could be said for Stan Winston with the Youtja in Predator, and his collaboration with James Cameron on the xenomorph Queen. You just can't see monsters like that anymore.
I read an interview Giger did once, in which he was asked what inspired his unique "biomechanical" artwork -- and on the tremendous scale he often did his paintings. His reply was (and this isn't verbatim), "Oh, that stuff appears in my dreams every night since I was a little boy." 😳

I wonder how the man ever slept!
