Less Than Half of San Francisco Students Are High-School Ready. More Than a Fourth Are Chronically Absent.

Robert Schmad • July 19, 2022 3:15 pm

San Francisco Public Schools released data last month painting a bleak picture of academic achievement in the famously liberal city.

For the 2021-2022 school year, just 47 percent of eighth graders were deemed ready for high school. Twenty-eight percent of students in the San Francisco Unified School District are "chronically absent"—a proportion that has doubled since the 2019-2020 school year. Two-thirds of African-American students fall into that category.

Despite the declining academic performance, San Francisco city officials have debated whether or not to rename schools or remove murals dedicated to important figures in American history. Three progressive members of the San Francisco school board were recalled earlier this year after parents opposed the district's focus on social justice issues over education.

In English Language Arts, 42 percent of students in the district scored below proficient, with 72 percent of African Americans and 66 percent of "Latinx" at reading levels deemed unsatisfactory for their grade levels.

San Francisco schools in 2021 refused to disclose the percentage of students ready for college or a career after graduation. The district has yet to release data on the percentage of students on track to graduate and is withholding its 2022 report until the following year, according to the performance analysis report released in June.

Despite the above testifying to Gavin's incompetence at governance he has the gall to presume to run for President.

It is racist to expect blacks and Hispanics to perform as well as whites and Orientals. Everybody knows that their problems are caused by white racists.

*sarcasm off*
Leave it to you to bring up race.

San Francisco is NOT alone in this. Those stats are replicated in virtually every large city nation wide. Politics aside, most of the larger cities have been democrat led for damn near ever, there is a growing consensus that it's tied as much, or more, to the size of the school district.

There was an entire chain of events that started back in the 1970's that has brought us to this point in time re. education.

Nice! 😊

luk’s post illustrates the california education system’s ongoing problems to a tee.
Granted, California ranks 44th in math test scores and 38th in reading test scores among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. California was 34th in dropout rate and dead last in student-teacher ratio. California has ranked near the bottom in math and reading scores for years. And yes, under Newsom’s Covid leadership the state lost more than 270,000 public school students over the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. And yes, 70% of California parents now prefer charter or private schools to California’s public school system. However, the teachers unions are very happy with the Governor and state legislative leaders which is what matters most to Democratic politicians that run the Golden State.

I think it’s good for people to see you for what you really are, so have at it!

Be true to yourself for once!
When haven't I been myself? I'm not the one he needs elevtymillion alts to make my points.

I think the big culprit here is the teacher's unions and their incestuous relationship with radical politicians. They've turned our schools into leftwing indoctrination centers and experimental social laboratories. In short the schools exist to satisfy the economic and political goals of teachers.

Your complaint is that right-wingers are too stupid to become teachers.

Cool!

Btw, luk is doing a great job representing the outcomes of suburban public seconday school education in California.

When I think of Luk, I think of a balloon full of gut wind squeaking out its contents to the great dismay of all within its range.

I think untrained inbred/unpedigreed untrained teacup dog mindlessly running around yapping at house guests for attention.
You post so much that the owners have to ban you for your own good, Willow.

And the fact that Luk got you, vette, and ogg on the same page when you all hate each other is a real testament to Luk's contributions to the Lit. ;)

...and leaving behind the telltale evidence he's never been housebroken.

Is paraphrasing too hard for you, SugaDaddy?
You want us to do the intellectual work for you?
Your role being ..... just to C&P?

I don't hate BB and his alts. I have been sparring with him (them) for many years without rancour. I dislike some of his lying thread titles that aren't justified by the link he (they) provides IF he (they) provides any evidence for the title's assertion.

If we met we would share a few beers while still arguing...

If only schools taught the essentials like how much pussy you can get with a can of corn or where Obamas birth certificate really is. You know, life lessons.
