Just another day in the gun paradise of the world.

the cop giving the presser this morning stated that the high-powered rifle found at the scene was an 'AR-15 style rifle' but also that it was bought legally (by the shooter) from a local venue. They also recovered a further assault-style rifle in his mother's car that he was driving when they apprehended him, and pistols from his home. All, apparently, bought legally.

the assault rifle ban has been in effect for 10 years in Highland, so there's clearly some loophole that needs addressing.

the vast majority of civilians do not need assault-style rifles. ban their sales, ban their ownership, make the legalese clear to make sure weapons such as the one this shooter used are covered by that. And enforce the damned ban.
Never going to happen.

Or any other theories as to what motivates them? Don't say guns. Those are the tools. The motivation is something else.
Social media allows them to congregate and fester, understanding that they aren't alone--and being egged on by their newfound support group.

But ready access to rapid-fire assault weapons makes it all a glittering attention-getter means for them.

Yes, the social media aspect needs work, but the bottom line is that ready access to the weapons has to be stopped. The 2nd Amendment was written for musket-style weapons, guaranteed access by civilians isn't covered by a strict and proper interpretation the 2nd Amendment anyway, mass-destruction weapons aren't covered by the 2nd Amendment anymore than nuclear-tipped missiles are, and no one's right to own and use rapid-fire, high-result assault weapons supersedes the right of anyone going to the grocery store, church, theater, concert, school, or 4th of July parade to live.

The Supreme Court is out of whack, primarily because the Republicans blatantly stole a seat. If the Supreme Court isn't going to protect and progress the rights of its citizens, it's time to pack it until a balance is returned. The Democrats need to ask themselves "What would McConnell do?" and then do it, without embarrassment. The majority of American citizens are opposed to this undemocratic Republican shit.

Are you saying then that the anti-gun lobby, which you call the majority, would be happy to just have a ban on assault weapons, not all firearms? Or is this only the view of a more pragmatic branch of the anti-gun group?
I don't think there's much of a call for a ban on all firearms--if properly licensed and kept in the limits of sanctioned hunting and home protection.

The rest of the world has access to social media for wierdos, and many countries have access to firearms, but do not have the mass murders like in america.
Not to assault-grade weapons. If you think otherwise, identify the "many" of them.

This asshole lives in the most heavily gun-controlled city in the United States which is run by rabid anti-American and anti-gun Democrats. There is no way he is a product of the law-abiding right. He is a by-product of the city's left-wing socialization that creates maladjusted, psychologically harmed, undisciplined, male children. He is far from the normally socialized American middle-class male.
We don't know where he got the gun.

Also, he's a verified Trumper.

Also, the fact that he shot up a very privileged LEFT enclave shows where his loyalties lies and who he hated. He may have grown up in an "anti-American" Democratic state, but he was right wing radicalized. Your arguments make no sense whatsoever.

Typical Trumptard. When cornered, resort to nonsense.

not quite

yes to the car after the murders

no, he walked to his mother's house in order to 'borrow' the car

who knows? they were part of the plan for to evade detection, along with—possibly—a wig. could have got them from anywhere, a goodwill store or a neighbour, a regular store or online.

On the same day, we also have Kenosha, Gary and Minneapolis, among others.

This Ogg shouldn't have legally been able to buy a BB gun.

If they start charging Moms & Dads in these cases, maybe American Parenting will start doing what Congress can’t.

is it because he wasn't arrested that it didn't show up in any background checks? I'm not suggesting he should have been arrested, but coupled with the threats to commit suicide it's something that should be an accessible record when it comes to buying guns... past episodes like this should be flagged so an additional psych check can be made on the person when they apply to buy a firearm in order to clear them for purchase or (if it's a result that flags continuing mental health issues) prevents them from doing so.

If they start charging gun dealers and manufacturers in these cases, maybe they’ll start doing what Congress can’t.

It would certainly clear up the confusion over gun versus firearm for some of you.
In real-world terms, as in common-speech use, there is no significant difference between the two words;

so with that stated, there are distinct differences legally and technically : not all "Guns" are firearms, but all firearms are "Guns".

I always say, Words matter, and they do, but in public, some differences are so small among the people's perception that a term already bursting with similarity of definition to another term that the two may be used interchangeably without loss of meaning or comprehension.

Then the legal/technical aspect adds more confusion....
Firearm includes any weapon designed to or can readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive, the difference between a firearm and a gun is that a gun is a very portable, short firearm, for hand use, which fires bullets or projectiles, such as a handgun, revolver, pistol or derringer.

Although the term “firearm” is used as synonym for the term “gun,” only those high-muzzle velocity firearms which need a crew to handle such as field guns, tank guns, and artillery guns like cannons and howitzers are referred to as guns. Guns are artillery weapons that may be portable or mounted. these are how we in the Army's 13E job description (MOS) officially referred to artie pieces

There are several types of guns: machine guns, hunting guns, and guns for training and entertainment.

Small and handheld firearms are not called guns by specialists since they are intended for use by a single individual. Such firearms are called pistols which are handguns with a chamber that is integrated into the barrel, carbines which are long arms that are shorter than a rifle, and rifles.

If they start charging gun dealers and manufacturers in these cases, maybe they’ll start doing what Congress can’t.
Did the gun malfunction? if not the manufacturers like car manufactures and car dealers are only liable for the malfunctioning of the products not the criminal illegal usage whether it be intentional vehicular homicides like in 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade, or because of drunk drivers like in 2005's Martin Heidgen case accidentally killing 7-year old Katie Flynn.

The gun was criminally misused. This absolves any firearms manufacturer, the firearm retail seller and the multiple government background investigators from being held liable, unless they knew the product was going to be criminally misused. This works in the exact same way for any and all product manufacturers, sellers.

Before you make uneducated comments in the future, under I assume was a failed attempt at humor..... you should know the very basics about firearms, so you don't keep embarrasing yourself.
I really don't care what you call the testicles for your penis extender, loser.

Just stop that shit. The kill opportunity for swords, knives, and SUVs isn't anything like that of a rapid-fire assault weapon. Just stop enabling senseless murder. As a human being, you fail.
And your continued propaganda usage of a pejorative, is easy to spot that you have absolutely no knowledge about simple basic firearms terminology or basic understanding of self defense tool with over 80 years of ppular availability in this country.

Private citizens colloquially Americans own over 450,000,000 firearms, and over 20,000,000 (4% of all guns owner by Americans) of them are Modern Sporting Rifles (MSR's) - these are very common and popular rifles and in use for over 72 years and in that time still account for fewer murders than peoples hands, and feet.

Number of murder victims in the Unites States by weapon used (pick any year) shows that rifle (that's all rifles including the scary black AR15s) deaths are less then 460 (less than 3% of all murders use rifles) and deaths and that deaths from "personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.)" are always over 650 every single year. See the FBI stats, pick any year.

Why the difference in terminology? Clips hold cartridges, and so too do magazines. Cartridge/ammunition....interchangeable yes, but for a slide like this, no. Clips are actually called Chargers btw, it was the little * there about the M1 that got them called clips in the American lexicon.

Your retarded false equivalencies are retarded.

...armed by the right's ferocious unwillingness to infringe upon their interpretation of the 2nd amendment.

Okay. Let's do this. Let's maintain a record of ever gun buyer's social media, all past and pending legal issues whether prosecuted or not, all health records flagged by any medical practitioner, interview all available relatives, past educators, and clergy.

For now the right is going to blame the boys in blue, public school teachers, and parents.

The right has no interest in trying to stop gun violence, they simply shift blame where ever they can and say the solution is more guns.
The 2nd is concise and clear in it usage of wording, and its explicit, there is no need for interpretation.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The prefatory clause is just one reason, not the only reason - Basic 3rd Grade American English usage.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State

The operative clause is the legal requirement prohibiting federal and state government (incorporated via the 9th & 10th Amendment which prohibits the Sates) - also basic 3rd Grade American English usage.
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
