the cop giving the presser this morning stated that the high-powered rifle found at the scene was an 'AR-15 style rifle' but also that it was bought legally (by the shooter) from a local venue. They also recovered a further assault-style rifle in his mother's car that he was driving when they apprehended him, and pistols from his home. All, apparently, bought legally.

the assault rifle ban has been in effect for 10 years in Highland, so there's clearly some loophole that needs addressing.

the vast majority of civilians do not need assault-style rifles. ban their sales, ban their ownership, make the legalese clear to make sure weapons such as the one this shooter used are covered by that. And enforce the damned ban.
