Let's talk about guns, shootings, solutions and idiotic suggestions

It was a military weapon converted into a consumer weapon.

indeed

the Army was forced to reconsider a 1957 request by General Willard G. Wyman, commander of the U.S. Continental Army Command (CONARC) to develop a .223 caliber (5.56 mm) select-fire rifle weighing 2.7 kg (6 lb) when loaded with a 20-round magazine.[25] The 5.56 mm round had to penetrate a standard U.S. helmet at 460 metres (500 yd) and retain a velocity in excess of the speed of sound, while matching or exceeding the wounding ability of the .30 Carbine cartridge.[64]

This request ultimately resulted in the development of a scaled-down version of the ArmaLite AR-10, called the ArmaLite AR-15 rifle.[8][65][66][67] However, despite overwhelming evidence that the AR-15 could bring more firepower to bear than the M14, the Army opposed the adoption of the new rifle.[8][55][65] In January 1963, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara concluded that the AR-15 was the superior weapon system and ordered a halt to M14 production.[55][65][68] At the time, the AR-15 was the only rifle available that could fulfill the requirement of a universal infantry weapon for issue to all services.

After modifications (most notably, the charging handle was re-located from under the carrying handle like it was on AR-10 to the rear of the receiver),[66] the newly redesigned rifle was subsequently adopted as the M16 Rifle
.[8][55][65][69] "(The M16) was much lighter compared to the M14 it replaced, ultimately allowing soldiers to carry more ammunition. The air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle was made of steel, aluminum alloy and composite plastics, truly cutting-edge for the time. Designed with full and semi-automatic capabilities, the weapon initially did not respond well to wet and dirty conditions, sometimes even jamming in combat. After a few minor modifications, the weapon gained in popularity among troops on the battlefield."[55][70][71]

Despite its early failures, the M16 proved to be a revolutionary design and stands as the longest continuously serving rifle in American military history.[65][69]

cops pull over a truck for possible vehicle violations, end up arresting 3 'sovereign citizens' and taking/disposing of 'live ammunition, black gun power and an “improvised military-grade explosive device.” '

Deputies said they learned more explosives were stored at a property in Johnson Valley, and they executed a search warrant at what they described as a "remote sovereign citizen compound," where they took 54-year-old Venus Mooney into custody, and additional “military-grade explosives,” ammunition and firearms were found.

All three suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive device and possession of a controlled substance while armed, and they remain held without bond.

the 'boyfriend loophole' stalled over language that designated it the same as spousal or cohabitation when it came to taking away guns from abusive partners permanently. The rewrite delves into the language of 'how long together' and the 'nature' of the relationship, and designates a 5-year ban instead, in order to 'give them time to straighten up' and correct their life choices. It seems more palatable to republicans and makes the bill more likely to pass with bipartisan approval.

and already the House gop leadership's anti the bill, as well as plenty of regular repug representatives

House Republican leadership is expected to formally urge its members on Wednesday to vote against the Senate deal. And the conservative House Freedom Caucus announced that it would oppose the Senate agreement, raising particular concerns over a provision that would incentivize states to create so-called “red flag” laws, which allows the confiscation of firearms if someone is deemed a danger to themselves or others.
😶

Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-Texas), who represents the community of Uvalde, Texas where a shooter killed 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in late May, announced that he would back the legislation in a Twitter thread Wednesday morning.
earlier, he'd voted 'no' to the dem gun bill which would have raised the age of legal purchase to 21. Guess with what's going down in Ulvalde right now, he hasssssss to back something

In South Africa gun-related murders are the leading cause of violent death, placing the country second in the world after the US. But South Africa’s population is less than 52 million compared to the US’ 322 million. Our murder rate per capita is 36.4 per 100k and the USA is 4.96. So the USA does nto really have a murder problem. The global average is 6.1

The South Africa’s homicide rates are indicative of a warzone or a country in crisis. This is post 1994. It was much lower during apartheid. And this with white people armed. In fact I often didnt lock my doors and streets were safe, with children and wolmen walking alone, and no homes had walls. The General murder rate was about 90% less and farm murders in particular, were basically non-existent. Overall crime rate increased with about 500%.

With the exception of cash in transit heists, most murders are with hand guns. A consistent and disturbing trend in post-apartheid South Africa is the rate that state-owned guns land in the hands of criminals through theft, negligence, fraud and corruption. The police’s secretariat recently said that more than 1900 guns belonging to the police, defence force and the prisons went missing over the past year. So the government themselves are the main source of firearms causing the havoc.

We do not have american style mass shootings with asault weapons. It is hijackings, robberies, home invasions, assassinations, and just plain torture and kill with nothing stolen.

Firearms control to disarm white people of legal firearms has had no impact as the murder rate has skyrocketed, leaving them defenceless. Mostly, whites must turn in firearms, and some of these are promptly sold from police stations through corruption.

https://inews.co.uk/news/world/sout...-prinsloo-sold-guns-to-criminal-gangs-1167534

The list of such things is endless. So why would anyone support the disarming of law abiding people? To make it safer for criminals?

So which is it? Do we have a firearms problem (never was a problem during apartheid), do we have a black crime problem( prisons must be at least 99% you know who), or do we a have a corrupt government problem, flooding the nation with illegal arms, incompetent and corrupt so they cant enforce law and order? Disarming law abiding people has not solved it.

woman spotted inside hospital appearing to load ammo into weapon... security guard manages to snatch it out of her purse before cops arrive
Police said a semi-automatic Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 handgun and an incorporated laser were secured by the security guard prior to the officer’s arrival.

Officers also found one high-capacity (50 round) drum-style magazine with 36 loaded rounds, two magazines containing a total of 13 loaded rounds, and 14 loose rounds in Levertt-Chapman’s purse, a news release stated.

In South Africa gun-related murders are the leading cause of violent death, placing the country second in the world after the US.
When I researched firearm related deaths per 100K. I get a number of 8.3 per 100K for South Africa. The USA comes in at 12.3 and Honduras leads the world at 60 per 100K. Now there are many metrics used around firearms and death, so clearly people can find different ratios.

However, no matter which source is used, the USA leads the world when countries which have "war zones" or "political instability" results are removed. Countries that have strict firearm regulations or out right bans have the lowest rates.

No one can argue that firearm regulations do not lower the number of firearm related deaths. The proof is there in every single study.

In 2020, according to the CDC, 20,530 people were killed by others with guns in the USA.

38,824 people were killed that same year in car accidents.

It’s time for the USA to get rid of all the cars.

There is an actual thread with that same logic.

Killed by others, or just killed?

First of all, I would like to repeal the Second Amendment. That will not happen, but I advocate it. Then I would like for the ownership and use of a gun to be treated the way the ownership and use of a car is treated. One should be required to get a license to own a gun. One should be required to leave a ballistics test with the FBI. Then one should be required to get a license to use a gun. It might be a good idea to require user insurance too. The illegal possession of a gun should be a serous offense.
