Why aren't the attachments showing up?

When I'm clicking on the "View attachment XXX" on a post, I a "page not found" error message. This seems to be true for posts by many different people. It doesn't seem to be a browser issue, since I've tried opening the link with Edge and Firefox. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I've tried it with Chrome as well. No difference.

From what I can tell, this will happen if the attachment copyright was not owned by the person doing the attaching. At least that is what I have read in other posts (you might want to search for the term 'attachments'). Also, I have tried making attachments with that same result. Evidently this was the case with the old site as well. Not sure how one establishes that something is 'legally' copyrighted by the poster.

The only way I have found to reliably post a link or image is to hotlink it from a site that permits hotlinking; not all sites permit hotlinking. As far as I can tell, it is not a problem with my/your settings or browser, etc.

The odd thing is that there are people who commented on those posts, meaning that they were able to see it and I wasn't. I'm still scratching my head about that.
