But anything the international community can do to Russia will hurt the common people more than it will hurt the leaders. Economic sanctions cause widespread distress and privation, but the leaders never miss a meal. War, likewise, always falls harder on ordinary people than on those who make the decisions, until the point comes, if it ever comes, where the leaders have to be tried for war crimes or shot by revolutionaries.

Just something to keep in mind.

I think that's just a hard truth we have to deal with amongst others.

which is why i fully approve of the sanctions against putin and his crew of oligarchs and really don't want to see the regular russian people hurting too much: if the general populace hurts TOO much, it's easier for putin to levy that into a uniting of ill-will towards the west.

having said that, though, it may only be through the day-to-day suffering of the russian citizens that grass-roots changes will get made, ousting putin from power.
And wait till they see the body bags of their children–putin's announced losses of 'close to 500' whereas Ukraine sources report thousands)

That always worked for the Cuban Communists, and is working still.

Fuck them. They have allowed their country to get to this point. That makes them culpable. If Trump did this...every last American would be to blame. Why should I view Russians as any different?

In order for there to be a political solution to Putin's war crimes, economic hardship has to be imposed upon the population who has the ultimate power to remove him from office. You seem to have forgotten Democrat Party policy 101.

It was never Democratic Party policy to impose economic hardship on anybody. (N.B.: The most redistributive of taxation never imposed "hardship" on the rich.)

Tell us all about it. So Biden didn't hold up vaccine shipments to Florida because he wanted to harm DeSantis politically? The Democrat Party and big tech didn't go after Trump voters and their businesses to help Biden's election, right?

No, and no.
