None of us are born knowing that the Nazis's and Hitler were exterminating Jews based on race.

We learn it
We learn it over our lives, at different times
And we learn it imperfectly

When someone calls a statement you made, bigoted, insensitive, racist it is what you do with it that determines what comes next....

Calling you the racist and ignorant...vs what happened to Whoopi. She checked herself, reached out to informed individuals, listened to others and what they had to say and then apologized for being incorrect. What she did was called learning and sometimes that doesn't come easily.

Yeah, the Holocaust is one of those obscure topics that no one ever talks about.

yes. people are human and make mistakes through rectifiable ignorance of a topic or where they have learned something incorrect. When called out, people can decide to get informed and be educated by those who know better...or they can remain as they are and get called names for it.

You and your ilk (or "elk" as your root userid used to say) work tirelessly to convince us teh Holocaust was no big deal.

"Arbeit Macht Frei" and all that..

Whoopi just wants to stay employed. Her statement was correct. The Nazis not only killed 6 million Jews, they also killed another 6 million Russians, and countless Gypsies, Slavs, Pols, and disabled people. It take evil to kill people for simply being different. Some German officers even committed suicide because of it

Read "Ordinary Men," about a police unit that went into towns in Poland and Russia after the Wehrmacht. It makes your blood run cold.

Rosanne Barr gets canceled for an Ambien fueled text, apologies and gets canceled. Radical, uninformed and ignorant (But a great actress!) Whoopi gets a two week suspension! LibTards see nothing wrong with that! LibTards always be LibTards!

This isn't her first time. Her apologies fall on deaf ears because of this. Media is just as much to blame because her role there is the antagonist. It is her job to push boundaries...to say things that shouldn't be said. Suspension isn't enough in my opinion. If media wants to follow the FOX path...they will only suspend her.

Funny you say that.

The way some states are leaning into their education process, nobody is gonna be talking about it at all because nobody will be learning about it.

Whoopi (whom I'm NO fan of) was partially right. The holocaust was an example of mans inhumanity to man. What she was wrong about was it not being racist.

The Jews, Gypsy's, and other minority groups rounded up and exterminated were considered separate races and were being exterminated based on that racial belief.

If she apologized/clarified, fine. I'm not in favor of sanctioning her even if she didn't. This whole cancel culture shit has to stop. I'm quite capable of changing the channel if needs be.

If ever the opportunity arises, visit a concentration camp.

It will give you goosebumps. Very emotional and sad, but have never been more proud to be an American knowing we put an end to that atrocity.

The Russians are proud too. So many of their citizens perished in the Holocaust.

Gina Carano was fired by Disney, which owns ABC over an Instagram post comparing inhumane restrictions and dehumanization to the Nazis’ treatment of Jews.

Whoopi Goldberg got a two week vacation from ABC for minimizing the Holocaust as “y’all whites against whites.”

Uh huh. She was suspended from The View for two weeks. Yet Rosanne Barr got canceled for similar stuff. “That’s how you do it,” dipshit!

You would have to take that up with their bosses...I'm not for cancel culture at all as stated in the OP.

We all are at different places with learning and awareness...but, if you choose to ignore information in the world, facts and /or get caught up in political agendas, propaganda and misinformation and persist with it you will most likely get the boot.

Had Whoopi decided she was right and resisted the facts around.the Holocaust....she would have gotten the boot.

So the take-away is that its ok to be an ignorant racist as long as you apologise for your ignorant racism?

So the take-away is that its ok to be an ignorant racist as long as you apologise for your ignorant racism?

No, I don't think so.

One could assume(I do often and mistakenly) that someone Whoopi would be more versed in the Holocaust. I understand her explanation....she is seeing "color" as lacking in the Holocaust so she had a misunderstanding of what actually was happening. I'm paraphrasing here words...(she only thought white people were being marched off death camps, so how could that be based on race).

We should get second chances(average citizens) and the stakes are a bit higher for "personalities" who I assume should know some basic facts better.

Her understanding of race is white or black, apparently. That is a must of race and how it applies to the Holocaust and a lot of things.

Dark skinned folks were actually exterminated as well as folks with chronic diseases...anyone who was deemed " inferior" as defined by the Nazis's and Hitler.

So the take-away is that its ok to be an ignorant racist as long as you apologise for your ignorant racism?

No, the take away is to admit when you were being ignorant racist and apologize for it rather than doubling down on it.

I don't think it's all the egregious to have missed the part of the Nazis themselves saying it was a race issue.

So the take-away is that its ok to be an ignorant racist as long as you apologise for your ignorant racism?
no, it's more than an apology which may or may not be genuine...

to harbour and/or display ignorant racism is a human failing for some.
to take the time to speak with those who have knowledge on the subject, as she has, and then issue an apology accepted as genuine by those who were the most involved (see below) and continue on to take the time to educate oneself and grow as a person in understanding and empathy is what makes it alright. For now. If she goes on, instead, to continue repeating the same ignorant racist notions, then it negates any apology, any self-education taken as a part of her keeping her job.

people will judge her just like they are rogan, who's "apology" about spreading misinformation was half-arsed at best–"I promise to do better/try harder"–but gained support from friends... and then he went on, using twitter this time, to continue spreading dangerous misinformation about ivermectin as initially published by Reuters (who very quickly rectified their mistake and clarified) as if it were truth, hours after the correction had been made. <--that is what insincerity looks like when it comes to fucking apologies.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said on Tuesday that ABC's decision to suspend Whoopi Goldberg for comments about the Holocaust should serve as a "teachable moment" for the host of 'The View.' Greenblatt, who appeared on television with Goldberg this morning, said he accepted her apology and that Goldberg should use her time off for "introspection" and suggested she visit The Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.

"For me, she apologized last night online, and then she did so again this morning," Greenblatt noted. "You know, and I accept her apology. I know she's been a friend of the Jewish community all throughout her career. And I respect that and appreciate it. I can't comment on ABC New internal process. But what I will say is that I hope Whoopi can use the next two weeks for a process of introspection and learning. Right?"

"I don't think Holocaust Remembrance Day should be one day of the year. We can learn about the Holocaust 365 days a year, just like today is the first day of Black History Month, Don. But I don't think we should confine our thinking about Black History to just 28 days," Greenblatt said.
