To do what...lol!

Repubs seem to love to line up for a hospital bed for covid and jail with their penchant for violent overthrow of the American system.

Please show up armed....we have plenty of jail space (built mostly on Republicans fear) for traitors and criminals to go to.

So what :confused:

Michigan is an open carry state.

Not in the polls, I should hope. In most states, you can't even carry a sign within a certain distance of the polling station. You're probably breaking the rules if you even wear a campaign t-shirt, though I've never heard of that getting anyone in trouble.

Lansing — Republican Mike Detmer, a candidate for the Michigan state Senate, told a crowd Saturday that people should "show up armed" to protect Republican election observers' access to monitor the counting of ballots.

In response Monday evening, Michigan's top election official, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, said she had referred Detmer's comments and additional remarks from Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley to Attorney General Dana Nessel. In a statement, Benson said voter intimidation by brandishing a firearm at a polling place is illegal.

Now, I've never heard of a party's election observer being denied such access -- and if it does happen, isn't that something to call a lawyer about? You can be sure the county Republican Executive Committee will call a lawyer. What's the point of a gun? That's not going to help anything one little bit.

It's worth watching for the context alone. This was a subtle nod to people that are already considering illegal actions like poll location intimidation. Showing up with a gun would be considered illegal even outside of the polls if done with intent.

Voter intimidation is illegal whether you have a gun or not. Carrying a gun is not illegal. Unless you have criminal intent. Which, oddly enough, Mens rea is an element in almost every crime.

Carrying a gun at the polls should be enough to establish a definite mens rea to intimidate voters.

You're missing the point. Do we want metal detectors at the polls? This kind of rhetoric will make them necessary.

Why would you need metal detectors? Open carry is legal, concealed is not, absent a permit.

And if you need a metal detector to detect the weapon, only Superman with his x-ray vision would be intimidated by a weapon nobody else could see.

I hope you are not seriously suggesting anyone should be allowed to carry a gun in a polling station, open or concealed.

I qualified my post - "if done with intent"

As January 6 has shown, some people aren't the sharpest tools in the shed...this type of encouragement can easily turn out badly.

The American system allows for one to be armed.

Why would anyone go to jail for being armed???

This is the USA WillJ, not Venezuela. :D

Because the present state of American politics presents a very real possibility that if anyone brings a gun to the polls, it will be fired. It would be safer to allow open-carry in a liquor store.

Happens millions of times every election, rarely if ever has that ever been the case.

You're full of shit and have nothing to support this lie based on irrational fear of things you can't control.

It would be safer to allow open-carry in a liquor store.

Considering how much violence goes on in liquor stores vs. election polls, you're once again rejection objective reality.

Democrats then shouldn't be so obvious in their lawbreaking at the polls.

Please go vote with your gun and find out how wrong you are dopey....please, put your actions behind those mealy mouthed words of yours. Or are you afraid of your own convictions?

BOE_Open_Carry_Polling_Place_Instructions_10_16_2020_705274_7.pdf

Read the link fuckheads....you cannot carry in Michigan when going to the polls. It's a PDF....so I can't cut and paste it.

they not only advocated bringing guns, they also encouraged another illegal act of poll workers unplugging the voting machines 'if they suspected fraud'. And we all know how the ignorance of some of the poll-watchers in those other places caused havoc with 'suitcase' nonsense.
“Tampering with ballot machines is illegal, and as a court made clear in 2020, so is voter intimidation by brandishing a firearm at a polling place," Benson said in a statement.
Nessel also weighed in on the episode, tweeting Sunday that “engaging in such conduct will result in arrest & prosecution.” She also asked: “Will [the Michigan Republican Party] condemn the encouragement of felonious acts by its candidates for office? Or is this cool now?”
In the video, Kelley is seen telling the audience of prospective poll workers, “If you see something you don’t like happening with the machines, you see something going on, unplug it from the wall.”

Detmer, meanwhile, was asked what could be done to “protect” Republican election observers at the venue in Detroit where absentee ballots were counted after the 2020 presidential election.

“The ideal thing is to do this peacefully,” Detmer said. “That’s ideal. But the American people, at some point in time, if we can’t change the tide, which I believe we can, we need to be prepared to lock and load.”

so we have a situation... poll watchers who don't have a clue what they're really looking at... see something they construe as potentially fraudulent... go to unplug machine/s... voters and other poll workers object and try to stop them.... guns get drawn... people, potentially, get hurt, disruption and mayhem, arrests, court cases... and all because of those 2 smug toadies who'll say it wasn't them, they called for it to be done "peacefully", just like t and his insurrection

Minnesota, the more I understand it the more backwards it seems...no wonder the BoBo wonder lives there.

Minnesota allows carry into the polls:. Minnesota has no statutes prohibiting firearms in the following places, although administrative regulations may apply:

Hospitals;
Bars or restaurants where alcohol is served;
Sports arenas;
Most gambling facilities; or
Polling places.
Note that, generally, loaded long guns are prohibited in public places,31 and a possessor must have a permit to carry a handgun, whether openly or concealed.

But, federal law provides an exception....if one feels threatened then the person can and will be arrested. So, just like all you white nationalist feel threatened by black people, I feel threatened by your carrying at a polling place....and guess what...you are gonna be arrested...lol!
