What the American people want is something a lot more left-progressive than they're going to get from the Democrats. The polls show that if you ask them about any particular item on the progressive agenda, such as single-payer health care, the majority are for it.

Bullshit. The reason the "progressive agenda" is dead is that even that amount of totalitarianism isn't flying with the American people. So the communist nightmare you fantasize about that would impose an even greater insult to American liberty would probably be opposed with more than just words. Nevertheless, the American people want what they want. It ain't Communism and probably would not even qualify as socialism, but they do want what elsewhere is called social democracy. "Progressivism" is as good a name for it as any.

If you remember the public controversy over Obama's ACA, at least half the opposition came from people who did not think a "reform" that left the health-insurance companies in business went far enough. They wanted real single-payer.
