He was CIA for just a few months--and in an office dealing only with public-available information. I know. I was there. He ran off to be a Supreme Court judge's clerk (via family connections). He was born to be an opportunist.

He obviously was trying to avoid the stuff coming off the fans in the coup planning when he abruptly resigned. He is certainly in a position to be spilling his guts and trying to keep his skirts out of coup-planning part.
