Question to Republicans: 'Do you consider yourself to be more of a supporter of Donald Trump or more of a supporter of the Republican Party?" In new NBC poll, answer is 56% GOP 36% Trump.

What a difference a year makes. 36% is still not insignificant but the number is shrinking fast. Lowest number yet for Trump, highest yet for GOP. After the GOP takes control of Congress in 9 months, all eyes will be on 2024. There’s no strong favorite for the GOP primary at this point. Or for the Dem primary.

I just hope this portends the death of Trumpism, that is, the hard-right nationalist populism that began with Ross Perot and morphed into the Tea Party. If the GOP can just go back to more or less what it was in 1990s -- more pro-biz than anything else, and paying lip service to the religious right while most elected Pub pols privately roll their eyes at those morons -- then, perhaps, it will become something worth taking seriously once again. But it won't, if Trumpism survives Trump and remains a viable political force.

The whole Trump family is toxic. The GOP would be better off just moving on and getting leaders who aren't trying to end democracy for their own benefit. Only way they will take back the white house. If they go with Trump, they will lose.

First of all, the question was asked only of those who identified as Republican or "lean to Republicans". So it doesn't account for the "I'm not a Republican but" gang, who 1) if anything are more right wing than actual Republicans are, and 2) tend to be especially attracted to Trump because "he's not a politician". Secondly, it's neither here nor there with respect to the impact Trump has had on right-wing politics in general, making it OK to be openly bigoted for the first time in decades. That genie ain't going back in the bottle anytime soon.

Entirely a left wing fabrication and largely a projection as the biggest bigots today are the woke democrats.

Keep telling yourself that all you wan't. You're not fooling anyone who doesn't desperately want to be fooled.

The GOP is going to have to make this choice sooner or later. Trump won't live forever -- he might not even live to 2024. After him, which way to go?

Dems are still trapped in the belief that they can manage everything. The Pubs are starting to adapt to this century. That will eventually include burying what's left of capitalism and corporations and evolving a new economic system.

The GOP has never displayed the slightest interest in anything of that kind. In terms of partisan politics alone, the only thing that will facilitate the evolution of a new economic system will be the GOP's reduction to irrelevance, and the emergence of a new two-party system consisting of the Democrats and something to their left.

The immediate question is, what does this portend for the midterms? Will Republican candidates start distancing themselves from Trumpism? (They don't dare go against Trump by name, he'll disendorse them.)

Yet he still draws crowds bigger than any other Republican.

Wow, you certainly are brainwashed. Trump puts America first, Biden - the dems and who he owes.

Show me an example of Biden putting anyone but himself/party first. I'll show you pages of the President who DONATED HIS SALARY to help the American people.

The Trump family makes camelot look like the three stooges. Every one of them accomplished, educated, and ready to lead the US to greatness.

Look where Biden has taken us in one year. First, open border to millions of illegals and flying them all over the country in the middle of the night. Might have something to do with the highest crime rate in 40 years, ya think?

Energy independence - gone.

Inflation OMG! And yet, if you still support him you are a bigger problem than Russia! :D

Trump will run and win in 2024. State Legislatures are enacting strong election laws that will prevent the LibFucks from cheating again! The LibFucks continued march towards marxism is dooming their chances to ever hold lower again!

By now, I hope not even the RWs on this board would ever consider voting again for Trump, not if his opponent were Lenin.

The problem here is not just one corrupt family. It is a political current. It existed before Trump announced his candidacy and might well continue after him. And it has nothing of value to offer America, nothing at all.
