excerpts:
Trust—in politics, in society, in one another—is not built in tiny side rooms only accessible by the very richest and most powerful. It's not built by billionaire space travelers who make a fortune out of a pandemic but pay almost nothing in taxes and provide poor wages for their workers. Trust is built through accountability, through well-oiled, fair, and open democracies that provide good services and support all their citizens.

And the bedrock of a strong democracy is a fair tax system. A fair tax system.

To put it simply, restoring trust requires taxing the rich. The world - every country in it - must demand the rich pay their fair share. Tax us, the rich, and tax us now.
History paints a pretty bleak picture of what the endgame of extremely unequal societies looks like. For all our well-being - rich and poor alike - it’s time to confront inequality and choose to tax the rich. Show the people of the world that you deserve their trust.

If you don’t, then all the private talks won’t change what’s coming - it’s taxes or pitchforks. Let’s listen to history and choose wisely.

Every time I see "millionaires want to pay more taxes" and I just think of this.

You, an individual person, or representing a legal entity (such as a corporation), can give ANY amount of money you want to the US Government at ANY time.

Donate to US Government

Stop claiming "I am a millionaire and want to pay more taxes". Just click on the damn link and give them your money.

Taxation isn't about "me giving them more money", it's about using the power of the government to MAKE other people give them more money.

.
ReichGuide is clearly dangeroisly over medicated or under medicated.

it's only when the tax system is clear, transparent, and fair that people will have faith in its ability to take a proportionate sum from the wealthiest people. A company here, a billionaire there, making 'donations' to a government can be lost in translation, even deemed an attempt to sway favour by the suppliers of disinformation. Make it simple, make it legal, make it binding, make them pay their fair share. That hardly seems a strange concept.

Every attempt I've ever seen to tax the rich that actually get's out of Congress and signed into law, ends up being "Tax the many" bills in the end that brutally rape the Middle Class instead. Because that is where most of the money really is.

Yeah, because that ^ will result in a consistent and dependable source of revenue that the government can plan spending policy around.

You are trying to be clever, but are too smart by half.

Flippancy and greed will be the downfall of America and western capitalism.

SAD!!!

How many proposals for aflat tax or national sales tax have beenput forward, only to be shot down by Democrats? A: a lot.

They'll never accede to that, because the power is in granting favors using the tax code.

Kinda like how the average person is treated.

Additionally: War profiteering and pandemic profeteering should be addressed and consequenced.

Pud doesn't realize that a "flat tax" would make the rich richer and negatively impact the middle class , the working class, and the poor.

Basically the opposite of what is needed.

Not true, but you're so stupid it's hard for me to care.

I don't even understand how people think that a flat tax could possibly be a good thing if you aren't already uber rich, especially in our current atmosphere for who makes what and who owns what.

Republicans had everything in 2017, but nobody proposed a flat tax. It’s a non-starter, like Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan.

With a standard, per-person exemption and a flat rate, it's not only progressive but transparent. I'm personallyin favor of a NST and not a flat tax,but I'd take either.

When the danger is finally recognized will be far too late for "or." The pitchfork crowd will have other issues, but runaway inflation putting people in higher tax brackets may get some notice.

Everyone should pay their fair share right??
