I'm going with Sharp Shinned Hawk. I guess I'll need to start putting some meat in the bird feed.

Meat?
Is he too good for sparrow?
I think that's a Cooper's hawk. The bane of my squirrel hunting season this year.
Do they have a high pitched screech and travel in pairs? I have a pair of something around here, but never see them close enough to get a good look.
I was thinking Coopers at first but I think they have red eyes. I am amazed at the amount of pleasure it brings. Explains the billion dollar bird feed industry.
I throw an ear of field corn out for the one squirrel who decided to live in the old silver maple. Sometimes it sits on one side and the hawk on the other.![]()
Every time I think my life sucks...I remember a cardinal, legs up, being eviscerated by a Cooper's.
That usually cures me.

I get some occasional cardinals. You meant the bird right, not the clergyman?![]()
The first real cold front of the year arrived yesterday. It's been a non-stop feeding frenzy out there all morning.
I've watched it eat a few and is welcome to all it can catch. It holds it prey down with a talon and rips off pieces with the beak.
Better than PBS.![]()
You know what's fun if you have a picture window? Put a bowl of birdseed on the sill outside it for six days. On the seventh, move the bowl to the sill inside!![]()
