Thank you. I love Dionne Warwick. Happy that she is still with us. Reminds me of my childhood. And the records my dad would bring home. I have a feeling the next year is gonna look a lot different for me. But much like the rest of my life, music is the one thing that can keep me alive.

No idea why I think this qualifies as sad, there's a joyousness but a melancholy in his voice and the lyrics too. Sufjan is just not of this earth and doesn't follow our rules...

Something a bit different then. The lyric to this has added poignancy when you've read some of the back story to Reich and his bizarre theories, the love his son had for him, and the line "your son's coming out", near the start when Peter/Kate pockets the book. Plus Donald fucking Sutherland in your video? Way to create a melancholic masterpiece.

Have to admit I first heard the Johnny Cash version, but then later found the NIN original, at which point I was unable to listen to Johnny's any more. Can't forgive him the lyric change. Trent had it right and while Johnny makes it a sad song, the NIN one is emotionally shattering. Like I have to have a drink to calm down from it shattering.

Cool yeah I prefer the NIN one. I like Johnny Cash well enough but just prefer every version over any of his. His Becks Rowboat comes close but still original is better.
