Hi all.

I had my first story published here today and I'm still learning the ropes of the place. Are all comments on stories private messages? Or is there a way that public comments can be attached to them? I love seeing feedback, and learning from it.

Also, what does the H on an orange/red background next to my story title mean?

Is it something the admin hand out, or based on activity?

A red H means that your story has 10 votes or more and the average (mean) score is 4.5 or more.

The comments you see at the bottom of a story are public, not private. Anyone can read them.

You may also get comments in your email, or comments in your private message inbox on your author messaging control page.

Also, because public comments are moderated, they appear in little clusters. They may be delayed in the next few days.

Welcome! Such fun to have one’s first story up.

It’s a good idea to put a link to your stories in your signature block.

Story comments can be deleted either by you or by the site, but you cannot block particularly obnoxious commenters. PMs can be blocked, of course.

Lastly, new posters sometimes get a lot of suggestive PMs from the knuckle-dragging segment of the readers. It’s normal; feel free to ignore and/or block.

Again, welcome.

What is the "Author Messaging Control Page"?

Never heard of that before

That's probably not the right name for it. Click on your own name in this thread, or anybody's name. Then click on "View Profile." This takes you to the page at which authors who contribute here give some information about themselves, and on their own pages can govern things like whether they want to receive private messages and what they want to have in their signature lines (every author can post a link in their signature pages to their story submission page).

Do you mean normal forum messaging? That is not unique to authors

Just confused if I had missed some important communication outlet

I went to the User CP and made a signature - should it be showing up in replies here?

It does. If you don't see it, you don't have signatures signed up in your own view.

That must be it, thanks. I saw it when I wasn't logged in. Then it vanished when I logged in. Will try to hunt down the right button :D

Yes, you can turn footer junk off permanently (my forum page is text only, no flashing lights or endless book covers). You can also turn your Sig block on or off for individual posts.
