Here I disagree with you: I think Omicron infections are a good thing. Given that deaths is a lagging factor, the 12 dead in Florida are likely victims of Delta, the tail-end of that variant. Now comes Omicron, which is far, far less deadly but much more infecious, and it's sweeping through the population, ergo herd immunity is building fast and no one is dying. We might hit HI before COVID can mutate again and end the hysteria.

Nothing I said implied they were a bad thing. It's going to spread lock down or not and the faster it moves through the community the batter. All I'm saying is that the media trying to make out like the number of cases is a countdown to Armageddon is just so much bullshit playing to the handwringers.

They'd like nothing more than to cow DeSantis into ordering a lock down as if they're running the show. DeSantis is telling them to go fuck themselves and they just can't stand it. I'll stand beside DeSantis and give them the finger too.
 
I await Ishmael's triumph entry to Reddit's Herman Cain Award forum...a daily documentary of all those sad people who believe lockdowns are worse than ventilators, only to find out all too late that they are not as invulnerable as they believe.

There are studies I've read that indicate Omicron is just as deadly as Delta....pretty sure the jury is still out on that.

I seem to recall the opposite, Delta takes longer to spread but the fatality rate is lower, Omicron spreads faster but has a much lower fatality rate.

Fatality rates are a small but critical part of Covid. The misery caused by Covid infection saps the health and pocketbooks of people...and the disturbing rise in "long Covid" cases (long-term damage to heart and lungs) puts a strain on household budgets, hospital bedcounts and American productivity. The latter, of course, means nothing to those on the government dole as their monthly gift is not dependent upon America's productivity.

Agreed. In the end, whaever DeSantis does will be the Worst Thing Ever, though. They know the guy is destined for the WH, and they need to prep the battle space now.
