So, as a long time lurker I've decided to join and see if I can actually make my dream of writing erotic literature become a reality.

I'm sure many have started with good intentions and failed, so I'm going to start with some short stories to get started. Not done this before with any seriousness, so have to see where it all leads.

Just wanted to say hi!

Welcome and good luck!

Don't be shy. Feel free to contribute or to ask questions any time you want.

And, most of all: Just write. Just do it. It's the best way to learn. My first story here took me only 24 hours to write. It wasn't very long and I just forced myself to do it.

By the way, I was a reader and lurker at the Site for over 10 years before publishing my first story, so I can relate.

Welcome to the bouncy house and have fun.

Come by the coffee shop and I'll buy you your first cup of virtual coffee. ;)

Welcome.

The only way to learn to write is the way the cat learned to swim. No matter how nervous or timid you may feel, remember that everybody here felt the same the first time. Please participate, ask questions, make yourself at home.

I find that once your mind understands what you're doing, story ideas are likely to drift up from your subconscious by themselves. It's a good idea to write down a few words to remind you what the plot is about.
Then you need to sit down and write about it. Don't worry is the story diverges from the original idea at times. That's often happened to me.

The important thing is -- write!

Welcome! And if you're wondering what to write, may I suggest something for my event? :)

I think that for a new writer who is uncertain where to start, writing for events and contests is a good idea. They serve as a prompt of sorts, and also allow them to be seen by a larger audience than they might initially get otherwise.

Agreed. I wrote my first story when I decided, at the last minute and on a whim, to enter the Winter Holiday contest in 2016. I think I had about 36 hours before the deadline. I just cranked it out. The deadline forced me to and the contest gave me the idea. It wasn't great but it didn't matter. I'd published my first story.

Welcome aboard. I'm pretty new myself, been at it just a few months now.

For the most part, the community has been very welcoming, even when I ask stupid or over asked questions lol.

My only advice; write what you like, not what you think others will like, learn to take constructive criticism, learn to edit, and lastly just have fun.

Starting by writing short stories is a good idea. Write until you run out of words. Don’t try and make it longer by adding stuff that’s merely padding.

It can be a good idea to write a story aimed at one of the contests because it will get a lot of views, a lot of votes, and hopefully a lot of constructive criticism.

I remember reading a long time ago, and this applied to mainstream authors as well as Lit, to use your own personal experiences in some way when you first start because it’s an advantage when you’re writing about something you know something about.

Not about your life in particular, although a very good writer on here did exactly that, but as a basis. Another very good writer, born and raised with cattle and horses, used that knowledge in a series she wrote. Not as the plot but as background to some of the characters.

Whatever you decide to do just pick an idea, write your story, submit it and then ask for constructive criticism. There are plenty on here who are only too delighted to give honest advice to new writers.

Welcome. And as others have said, "just write", post, and enjoy it.

BUT, be forewarned: If you post to the Loving Wives category, be prepared for probably some very negative comments and low ratings. It's likely not due to any shortfall in your story. It's just who most of those readers are.
