No reason a hate crime hoaxer should be treated to anything less than what the perp of the same hate crime would get had it not been a hoax.

IDK if it's 10 years, but it would be a fuck load more than a fine.

10 years is a bit steep, eh? Their trustworthiness needs to be demolished, not necessarily their entire life.

Maybe they need to be shamed like we do with a sex offender? Let everyone know what they did and just let them live out their life carrying that weight.

We effectively destoy the lives of sex offenders though. We can debate whether it is proper or not, I don't have the energy argue that right now but they are pretty fucked going forward.

Though if we pass a law like this we can expect hate crimes to immediately be greatly reduced and police to not be caught on camera as often.
