remember station wagons?
They got replaced by minivans.
Now imagine that a family still owns their ancient station wagon. Mom uses it as a grocery hauler, since the kids wouldn't be caught dead i it.

Now imagine that the eldest child is about to turn eighteen. Having done driving school and served the required time on a learners' permit, (s)he is about to be licensed. (s)he is both pleased and disappointed as only teens can be when the parents announce that their 18th birthday present will be the use of the station wagon as their daily driver. Once a week, they will trade with Mom, get to drive her new ports car while Mom gets groceries in the old family station wagon.

(S)he of course soon figures out the hilarity which can ensue on a blanket in the back of a station wagon.

Soon after, Mom notices a familiar odour in the back of the station wagon as she loads the groceries. All the way home, she reminisces about how her first child was conceived right thee in the back of that station wagon...

Thinking back to my childhood, no one in our family had a station wagon. Mom didn't learn to drive until late in life and dad bought her a big Chevy Impala boat. Dad also drove a big Chevy Impala. My mom's father drove a Chevy Impala. My mom's brother drove a Chevy Impala. My dad's mom drove a Plymouth.

In fact I don't think anyone on the block drove a station wagon. All I remember is big Fords, Chevys, etc. sedans. There was one guy who got a Corvair when they came out, but he still had a big Ford sedan too.

And now I forgot what I was trying to say.

Yup, if there was no station wagon, an Impala's back seat would do the trick. My parents had two. The Green Monster was a '67 I believe but we had it til I was 21, so was Lit legal. Drove like a tank.

Remember them? Hell Yes, I drive one most days if I drive at all. 'My 95 Taurus GL wagon has hauled an awful lot of stuff in recent years.

Imagine Mom's surprise when one of the daughter's 'friends' approaches the land yacht/roving motor hotel/fun bus not realizing who's driving. But ya' know, Mom's kinda hot and well ..... MILF's need fun too.

and it brings back fond memories of the "old days". But how will explain the late in life pregnancy since her hubby got snipped?

Unless spaghetti is involved and sauce is needed.

Hey, my moms land yacht was a two door, blue, with the obligatory black vinyl top. It to was a '67. I was 17 when she got brand new.

Dad's Impala was a '66 light blue four door. He was in sales and it was a company car. He only drove it for work. Any other time they/he took mom's car.

I got to use mom's car for the prom. The front seat went way back, almost into the backseat. It was a bench seat.

our second Impala was a light blue four door. I think it was a '71. I pretty much never got to drive it. Anyway, it was not nearly as roomie as the Green Monster.

I wanted a wagon, but I never found one cheap enough. New wagon buyers generally drove them longer. I eventually bought beater vans then pickups. Now there are crossovers, tall wagons with short beds, but the low mpg could make that whole class unaffordable in a few years.

What do you mean in a few years? They will be unaffordable by this time next year if Joe has anything to say about it.
