Hii, I'm a new author, but a long time literotica reader. Non binary, they/them.

I was wondering, what convinced you to start writing erotica?

For me it was a realization that if I ever want to be a great writer, I'd have to start by writing what I love - deranged smut.

My first story is in Pending, I can't wait to expose everyone to it and hear what people think!

I wrote for years in the traditional way of closing the door on the steamy portion of sex scenes. One day I didn't close the door while I was writing, and although I excised that from the mainstream novel I was writing, I kept it for the start of an erotica portion on my writing life.

oh that's lovely. A great symbiosis

Someone suggested it to me. Guys tend to do that when you prove to be decent at sexting. They can just let you do all the work while they focus on jerking off.

lol right? I've posted some stuff on reddit, and people are like "more! more!"

This stuff takes time! I have a full time job haha.

(a) Wrote for a partner.
(b) Got itchy that there weren't enough stories of the kind I wanted to read, so I realised I'd have to write them myself.

I just like to get my better sex fantasies down on paper before they fade into the ether from whence they come.

Ben

Ben

Hell yes. "Do not go gentle into that good night."

Ben. I feel I have to mention that my story has a man named Ben in it. Things turn out ok for him though. So. Congrats?

I say this as someone who is too busy working but has a draft sitting on the computer as we speak... I started writing erotica so that I could start putting my own ideas to [digital] paper, and share them to others. I read erotica before, but I didn't see a lot of what I wanted to see. So, instead of complain, why not write my own?

What I wasn't seeing was:
1) Certain niche types of trans/queer erotica
2) My very, very specific world-building fantasy ideas or absurdist erotica plots (well that's just my creative writing brain, then, isn't it? I'll post these eventually!)
3) Different styles/takes on old-fashioned, classic erotica plots that we are all familiar with (just wanted to do my own take)

I guess that's my drive. Plus I just love to write!

That totally makes sense! For me it feels like a compulsion. When I see a niche I connect with, I want to riff on it. Even if it's just 20 weirdos on the internet enjoying it, I want to have them applauding by the end. That's all the motivation I need.

I started reading online erotica sometime around the turn of the millennium, and after a while, I started thinking about trying to do it myself. It took me a long, long time to get around to doing it, but I finally did so in late 2016. I wanted to write stories of the type I enjoyed, but in my own way.

I should be clear though that I'm just writing nonsense and I think you're probably actually bringing something valuable to the art form.

With an average rating of over 4.5 I think you're doing alright!

Thank you! Although, to be frank, the longer I write the less I care about scores. I have derived as much satisfaction from writing and publishing stories with scores under 4.5 as I have stories with scores above that benchmark. I'd rather get a high score, all things being equal, but all things are not equal, and in an unequal world the way a story tickles my fancy is far more important than the score it gets.

Thank you for your wisdom.

I don't read much erotica myself, and, apparently in contrast to some others, I didn't start writing it because I thought I could do better or what I wanted to read wasn't available. I don't compare my stories to anyone else's. I have, though, looked where apparent kinks aren't being well subscribed and have written to some of those niches.

Not so far off your reason. I’ve had a few ideas in my head for decades, but initial efforts to write them down weren’t good. I’ve done software and technical writing, my fiction was too ‘structured.’ A short creative writing workshop helped me with form.

Way back in high school I’d written a few smutty shorts for friends but nothing more for decades, so combined with the above I finally decided to put stuff out. I’d bounced around a few sites I didn’t like so never submitted before finding this one in 2018.

Here, I can write and release and get a sense of what can work and what doesn’t work. And, as you said, you can’t learn to write without writing.

What convinced me to start writing smut? Well, writing is my art form, it is what comes easily. I was writing something else, and somehow it spawned smutty side ideas. I wrote a few of them for my own amusement. I had been reading here for a long time and had the idea of publishing those. I was well received, so I suppose that feedback is what convinced me. After that I have written stories I wouldn't have written if it wasn't for publishing them here.

Nothing convinced me to start writing sex fiction. I was bored during COVID lock down. Wrote one. enjoyed it. Enjoy the response. Now I write sex fiction. It's that simple. Write, submit, enjoy and repeat.

I wrote a couple fantasy romance pieces that have been published. I kept pushing the line until it crossed into erotica and found I liked it better that way... And the number of people seeking out my books doubled.

Haha, yay for horny readers!

Keeping the narrative/themes flowing between sexy and non sexy times is challenging for me as I'm starting to write longer stories. Challenging but fun.

Thanks for sharing.

I have stories, scenes, and characters pop into my head from time to time.

I've started writing them down because I didn't want to forget them.

Then I decided to see if other people might like them, and started posting here recently.

New author as well. For me I started writing because of two key things.

1. I've had a number of couples around us break up this year due to their significant other stepping out on them. I've got quite a bit of anger about that, so writing helps

2. Earlier in the year I had a dream relating to point one above. My wife is encouraging me to write the story, which I think I will next year once I am used to writing.
