Peaceful protests against real injustices are one thing. The violence, and violent people, who take advantage of those protests to cause injuries and mayhem are quite another. They have NOTHING to do with the cause.

Most of those involved with the march on the Capitol would have been appalled by what followed. What is the difference? A number of people went on to cause damage, violence and attacks on the US government, and are now being prosecuted for it. as are those who took part in violence, damage and looting after the previous protest.

But peaceful protests are part of the US (and UK) political process, There have been three campaigns this week in the UK.

1. Objections to the government's refusal to hold water companies legally liable for polluting rivers and seas. The campaign was successful in getting the government to change its mind by a written campaign backed across party lines, with no violence on the streets whatever.

2. Women wanting HRT treatment for the effects of the menopause had to pay for it in England, but not in Wales or Scotland. Again the campaign was mostly by writing to Members of Parliament with a small noisy group of women outside when the issue was being discussed. They were successful to an extent. Women now only have to pay once a year, for the first drugs only.

3, Insulate Britain has continued their campaign of blocking roads and glueing themselves to the road surface to try to encourage the government to insulate every home in the UK. they have been met with angry drivers and have had to be protected from violence by the Police. They are alienating people from their cause. the Government has already taken measures to ensure all new build houses have good insulation and introduced a scheme that identifies houses for sale that have less insulation than they should have. But does Insulate Britain care? No, and the public is so pissed off with them that sooenr or later someone will violently attack them. So far, one driver has played bagpipes in their faces, and another threw ink over them.

Insulate Britain is likely to produce violence because they are inconveniencing thousands of drivers each time. They even refuse to let emergency ambulances pass. The anger they cause, for what? is going to lead to violence.
