Republican great Collin Powell received a hero's funeral in the Washington National Cathedral today, with major political leaders from the past, Republican and Democratic alike, invited and attending. The Bidens, the Bushes, the Obamas were all seated on the front row, as was Hillary Clinton--inivited and seated on the front row. Only a few in that category were missing, all for good reasons. Bill Clinton is recovering from a hospital stay, and the aged Carters no longer can travel, all of their energy going to building houses for the poor. Someone else and his nudie wife were missing--not invited--not wanted. For very good reason. But all of the true American leaders, Republican and Democrat alike, who are living and were able were there, in physical attendance or spirit, to mark the occasion of the passing of a true Republican icon with all other true Americans. Only one former presidential couple was hunkered down, stewing in their own disrespect for Collin Powell and the American system, in their hidey hole.

For which he said he was wrong (given bad intelligence, he said, but I know that isn't true--they all were told that, yes, there had been such weapons because we sold them to them, but they used some, sold some, and let the rest deteriorate) and he apologized.

Name one time that Donald Trump has said he's wrong about anything and apologized.

Name one time you have.

That's the mark of an honorable person--to acknowledge they have been wrong about something and then having apologized.

Cite one time that either Donald Trump or you ever exhibited as an honorable person in this way. (or any way, actually.)

Tick, tick, tick.

Cadet Bone Spurs called America's generals weak. That is a delusion the likes of which the world has never seen.

His "wrong" put multiple countries at war and killed countless people.

Trump NEVER started a war.

Tick, tock

Since you asked so nicely...

Donald Trump apologized for boasting that, as a "star," women let him do anything he wants. Those remarks came to light in a 2005 video obtained by The Washington Post that features the real estate mogul using salacious language as he brags of kissing and groping women he's attracted to.

In his video apology released early Saturday morning, Trump says he's never claimed to be a "perfect person."

“Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am," Trump said.

“I said it, I was wrong and I apologize."

Buzz, buzz, buzz. Love it that the fly paper is working. :D

Thanks for pointing to the sleaziness of Donald Trump.

Cadet Bone Spurs couldn't handle the sight of blood. The closest he ever came to combat was dodging STDs and getting spanked with a Time magazine by a D list porn star.

SAD!!!

Dishonoring veterans, honoring terrorists

Cadet Bone Spurs called America's generals weak. That is a delusion the likes of which the world has never seen.

The men and women who die fighting for the cause of freedom are not accorded a fraction of the tender affection from the press that it lavishes on a single imprisoned Al Qaeda terrorist. We live today in an America in which the butchers of the Jihad in Guantanamo Bay receive better medical care than veterans waiting endlessly at the VA. While Obama cut off hot meals for Marines in Afghanistan, Islamic terrorists in Guantanamo Bay were enjoying lemon baked fish, honey glazed chicken, lyonaise rice, tandouri chicken breast, okra, hummus, dates, honey and seasoned lentils.

Obama denies that Islamic terrorism exists and suppresses any training materials about the role of Islam in Islamic terrorism while his administration warns of domestic terror threats from veterans. Muslim migrants from Syria receive lavish social benefits while health care for veterans is slashed. The Muslim migrants, many of whom support Islamic terrorists, benefit from job programs while veterans head for the unemployment line. This hatefully discriminatory attitude has become pervasive on the left.

Obama’s disrespect for veterans and the military is only a symptom of a deeper rot. Once again a civil war is underway between those of us who love this Union and those who seek to divide it. It is a conflict fought with words and laws, rather than bullets, but it has its casualties who are all around us. It is not only the veterans who have died at the VA who are its victims, but those who have long slept under green grass and gray stone, whose graves wait to be decorated, whose courage waits to be remembered and whose cause waits to be fought once again.

Why do I have an odd feeling that you enthusiastically SUPPORTED the Desert Storm and Iraq 2003 wars at the time?

Because there wasn't a democrat in the oval office then, and people like you went around proclaiming those who didn't support those conflicts were "Traitors," "Socialists," and "Backdoor patriots."

You see, I have a long memory of things.

Well, I guess your memory didn't serve you well enough to know I didn't live in the U.S. in those days.

I saw Powell speak in person maybe 25 years ago. The guy bleeds red, white and blue. I have my issues with him, but I never doubted he loved his country.

Bill Clinton's "quiet war" on Iraq set the stage for George W. Bush's bloody invasion

And on some level, they were. When Bush entered the White House, the US (with help from the UK) was bombing Iraq an average of three times a week. In 1999, the US spent $1 billion dropping bombs in Iraq; in 2000, that number was up to $1.4 billion.

Contemporary media reports referred to the bombings — at the time, the longest sustained US air operations since the Vietnam War — as a “quiet war.” If the war was quiet then, it is even less audible today.

And our understanding of the Clinton years is the worse for it. Omitting the decade leading up to the 2003 invasion distorts the roots of the war, which wasn’t just a product of post–9/11 hysteria or the creation of various Bush administration personalities.

The Clinton administration’s fixation on weapons and its desire for regime change were clearly on display at a February 1998 town hall, where Secretary of State Madeleine Albright tried to sell the public on bombing Iraq. Albright was repeatedly interrupted by antiwar activists, and pressed about why the US was so keen on attacking Iraq when there were many other, similarly terrible dictators throughout the world.

My fucking generals are a bunch of pussies

The disclosures from Woodward's extraordinary soon-to-be-released book “Rage” come as Trump is already under fire for other reports he denigrated U.S. troops and called those killed in combat “losers” and “suckers.” And it's further stirring the pot after Trump publicly accused top military leadership on Labor Day of wanting to start wars to boost profits for defense contractors —suggesting that they were behind allegations to try and sabotage him.

Yes, it's always a hoot to see the board Trumpettes point out that that silver-spoon draft dodger, Donald Trump, never started a war. :D

Funny how the Episcopalian cathedral in DC is the "National Cathedral." I guess if America had a state church, that would be it, being the default religion of the old-money WASP elite.

Nobody else had latched onto the name, and there was no other cathedral being built in Washington at the time. It's not like anyone owned the title before it was used. The Episcopalians didn't have to buy the name from anyone or put it through Congress or anything.

You still dont.

You have just outed yourself as a Russian troll we all knew you were.

Not that we didn't already long suspect this was the case, but at least you have basically admitted it.

Na Zdorovie, comrade Dmitri.

If you know anything of the history of the Cathedral it has always welcomed non - Episcopalian Christians and commemorated Jews, Catholics, and others. It has been a remarkably inclusive institution; the Dalai Lama, a Buddhist has preached there 4 times. It was the last place MLK preached before his murder. And yes Muslims too.

They even held an inauguration prayer service for Donald Trump.

It's a favorite venue for baccalaureate services for high schools in the region. (Wonder if high schools still have such services.) Mine was held there. I sang in the cathedral choir for a couple of years, which didn't require Episcopalian church membership. One of my granddaughters worked there this summer, and she's Catholic.
