Different font sizes

I know there is possibility with the tags lit provides to have formatting of text in stories e.g. bold, italic, underline but is there any tags to modify font size. I have current story which is turning into novella size so want a 10 point italic font to have a brief intro to story with main story at probably 14 point. Is this possible with lit submissions?

So what if your story is getting longer? Lit runs a house style for all its stories. Sure, there may be an occasional technical justification for different fonts (Bramble's story, for example) but just because something is longer?

You can always try, but I wouldn't be surprised if the site defaults your story to the default font size.

I don't understand why people seem to think their story deserves special treatment. If you're formatting e-books, sure, but we're all benefiting from a standardised platform.

Besides, you're assuming that all readers will register your 10 point and 14 point. That's a paper-centric notion that's pretty much irrelevant on digital reading devices. Someone reading on a phone could be down around 5 or 6 point, for example, or a vision impeded reader might have it set with a much larger font.

Worry about words, not presentation, I reckon.

If you use HTML tags to try and change the font size or face the story will be rejected. I tried, that's what happened. Except as noted below.

So the answer is no. Lit decides the font face and size to begin with in their CSS.

Now on the reader, the reader can change the font face and size to whatever they want.

On the Android app the reader can change the font size.

Okay - not a big deal

Thanks for the feedback AH

It was just to check. But yes not a big deal. I can work with what is provided by the tags that are provided.

I don't think so. If someone knows otherwise, I'd appreciate a citation for such a story accepted into the Literotica file, so what I think I know about it can be updated.

It wouldn't be professional for Literotica to accept a lot of story-unique formatting. Professionally constructed anthologies maintain uniform standards across the collection to give the reader a unified read. Jazzy formatting detracts from the content read and is considered unprofessional. The Literotica story file is essentially a running anthology.

That doesn't mean the Literotica can't be looser with formatting if it wants to be. If someone can point to stories in the file where the fonts were permitted to be different than the chosen standard, it would be good for us all to know that.

A reader can copy a story and do whatever jazzing up of it she/he wants to do before reading it. Increasing the font size is something many of us need to do to be able to read it.

Oh another thing to keep in mind...

The lit Android app strips out all html tags stripping out any formatting you put in there.

Also, most people use that app to read stories on lit.

People regularly claim that a high percentage of readers are using the Android app, but nobody's ever provided evidence for that. IIRC, last time this came up it turned out to be a misunderstanding of something Manu had said about many readers using mobile devices, not specifically the Android app.

It's just not believable that a large percentage of users would choose to read via a broken app that isn't even available in the Android store.

Android app?

I haven’t got an android phone so I know nothing about a Lit app. I type in Literotica.com on my iPhone, go to whichever section I want, and I’ve never found a problem in reading any of the stories on this site. Anything from the norm I’ve put in has always been published okay but maybe I’m not as creative as some others. 🤔

If you’re using your phone (iPhone or Android) and going to Literotica.com using a browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.), the browsers largely render the stories properly. We had a thread a while ago where the OP complained bitterly that their careful use of italics had been wiped out. But, if you viewed it through a browser, it was fine. They’d uploaded a .doc file, not pasted directly into the submission form (one of the methods recommended by the site, I usually do it as well.) Most initial responses blamed that, until someone bothered to look at the posted story.

The site provides an app that runs on Android (you download it from the site here, since it’s not allowed in the Play store.)

iPhones have apps, all kinds of them. But not, so far as I’m aware, a Literotica app. In any case, the Android app has its own rendering engine for HTML. It ignores anything interesting and simply renders a story as plain text, even if using a browser (e.g., Chrome) on that exact same phone renders the story with italics, etc.

The issue I mentioned above was apparently this, they were viewing the story through the app (my supposition, they never returned to the thread to confirm this after I posted there). You can’t submit stories through the app, but search, read, vote, etc. I have the app on an old LG phone, just for experiments. I have no idea how many people use it. Literotica.com itself claims “over 1,000,000 downloads”. I have no way to easily verify or dispute that.

Whether you take this into account with your formatting is up to you. I do take some concern that many readers are on phones/mobile devices, so I’m careful that I don’t do much to make that a horrible experience. But that’s mainly to do with paragraph length and such, which is just good writing practice. I’m not a big italic or bold user, so those aren’t usually a concern, but like I said, browsers on mobile devices render stories as posted. It’s just the app.

Okay, but that's what I use as by the time I'm read to relax after a long day of sitting in a chair or whatever, I like to lay down and don't want to lug the screen and keyboard over to the bed so I use my phone or tablet.

And I have only heard the same assertions as you.

I'm so sorry that you don't know the luxury of the lit app. And that you have to put up with a clunky Iphone. ;)

Apple wouldn't allow the Lit App in it's official store. After all it's for a porn site.

Where did you get this information? Or do you mean, 'most people use that app for reading instead of playing games with it'?

Anyway, if people choose to use the app, it's their choice to lose some special formatting features; not my responsibility as a writer.

I agree, I format my stories how I would like them seen at Literotica.com in the reader there.

I was just mentioning that the Lit app strips out all the html is all. And it is displayed very differently on an Android phone or tablet.
