You go when you get the subpoena. No ifs, ands or buts.

Refuse and you go to jail.

I agree, but I think the politicos are worried they may set precedence that will bite them in the ass down the road.

Having said that, fuck ‘em and bring it.

If you're subpoenaed you go, regardless of party.

Full stop.

Those with nothing to hide usually make the committees look like idiots.

Those with everything to hide are usually exposed.

I agree.

But currently folk can contest subpoenas in court and delay things for maybe years. That’s why trumps impeachment got rushed without subpoenaed witnesses. And that is why trump is currently suing claiming executive privilege to hopefully keep Bannon from testifying.

As Liz Cheney pointed out, what Trump and Bannon are doing to counter the subpoenas exhibits their guilt in trying to bring off a coup. Prison time.

If the committee goes through legal procedures nothing will happen for years.

However, there is a provision that the House can require the Sergeant of Arms to personally arrest and jail a reluctant witness before any hearing and force him/her before the committee. There appears to be no appeals mechanism with respect to this process which has not been used since the 19th century. The decision to do it would rest with Nancy Pelosi and the House without any involvement from the DOJ.

She must be sorely tempted. ;)

Anyone with a brain knows these Fascist traitors are Fascist traitors. Watch our Fascist traitors here defend these treasonous actions. Prison is not what they deserve. They deserve what all traitors should get. Wake up America.

I think you need two more "Fascist Traitors" to turn that into a completed thought...

It seems like a large percentage of lit's extreme left posters are hateful. I wonder if they are like that in person.

I would be willing to vote yes, but in more of a passive-aggressive manner.
The keyboard brings great courage to the 40 year-old adolescent...

And my point is only Fascist traitors support Fascist traitors. Pretty open and shut. What were those deplorables chanting 1/6? Hang them from where? No hate there....nope....true patriots....

So you give all of those violent protestors a free pass
because they are Democrats and mainly peaceful...

:nods:

Can Congress investigate private citizens?

While the power to investigate is broad, the Supreme Court has since ruled that Congress must confine itself to “legislative purposes” and avoid the strictly private affairs of individual citizens.

I'm enjoying the Bannon and 45 debacle that is unfolding. Can't wait for the early morning raids with them being taken away in cuffs.

Can't wait to see it.

Dozens of subpoenas during the Benghazi hearings led to millions of tax dollars wasted on irrelevant information and documentation. But comply they did.

If Bannon is held in contempt and subject to arrest, hopefully the police will not get involved. It would be best to send a qualified social worker, counselor, or mental health professional who can talk to him, understand his fears, and sooth his anxiety. Under no circumstances should he be sent to jail or prison. Mass incarceration is a national disgrace. Give the man counseling, not jail.

Given Merrick Garland’s lack of progress in prosecuting Trump for any alleged crimes, Mr. Bannon may also avoid time behind bars. There might even be some federal cash benefits earmarked for misunderstood individuals in need of support services such as Mr. Bannon in Biden’s $3.5 trillion Build Back Bannon Better plan.

Good plan. Bannon could benefit from a few months in a re-education camp.
